Default Might move to York, questions

I might be looking to move to York and want to here from people who live there what the laws etc involving forearms are. Currently live in Philly so anyplace would be better. After reading through the forums I still have questions. Could I shoot on my own property if I had enough land etc...?(what are the laws about it) is York gun friendly? as-in open carry w/o problems? how are the cops out there? Basically I want to hear everything about York good/bad.
Where I would be looking is somewhere "in the sticks" I've never been there but will be going soon for a friends wedding, I'm told Red lion? is a place I'd like.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Don't know how much it's practiced (revocation because of OC), but the York County Sheriff's site has a 'Firearms Responsibility' page which states the following:

Quote:
Overt and unnecessary display of your firearm in public places can cause alarm to the public and may result in revocation of your permit.
Red Lion is a pretty rural area, and I'd expect far less looks there than in downtown York. I have not OC'd in York County, but that's because I haven't been there lately, not because I chose not to. Of course, the York County Sheriff can't revoke my permit, since he didn't issue it.

I live in just south of York city, been here for 2 years and have had no problems. I have been known to BS with police up the range all is good. Allways OC or CC, neighbors may ask what I have in the holster but that is about it. I would not leave the people have been too nice so far. Hope that answers your questions.

As far as shooting on your own property, you'll have to contact the local PD or township to find out about any firearms discharge ordinances.

I have friends that live out that way. It's a nice part of the state.

I have lived in the Red Lion area for the past eight years. It is a nice place to live but people that have lived here all their life have a hard time warming up to outsiders, but in time they do. Generally the area is gun friendly. Red Lion is on the outskirts of the built up central part of York county. Any further south and east of Red Lion is pretty rural with lots of farmland. A lot of those folks do shoot on their own property because they got a lot of land and neighbors are few and far between. It would be prudent to check the local gov't to see if there are any regs for firearm distcharges. If so there are a handfull of private gun clubs in the area with reasonable dues. There are also a few good gun dealers and there is also a decent gun show every few months at the York fairground. Of course any place will seem like a paradise compared to Philadelphia.

Thanks for all the replies, I've looked at some real estate sites and found alot of perfect homes. Now to clean my house and get it sold will be the problem has anyone done a long distance move? I'm trying to figure out the logistics of selling my house storing all my stuff, looking for a new house(2hrs away) and having somewhere to live in the between time. First time moving since I bought this house when I was 17.

Moved to the area from out of state about 2 1/2 years ago and very glad I did. I think you will like the area.
We used Pods for moving and it made things very easy. They drop the pod of at your current residence you pack it then they pick it up and either store it for you or drop it off at a disignated time and place. Well worth the money and was the most economical way that we found.
Rent here tends to be high ( in my opinion) is cheaper to pay a morgage than pay rent. But we did rent for 1st 4 months and it was a good idea, learned the area and was able to better house hunt. Good luck on the move.
I have found York to be very Gun freindly, some high crime in and around the city but other than that nice area.

I never considered the PODS, thats proably my best bet. I'll have to price it against a self storage place, and keep in mind a self storage wont deliver. Damn good idea. My significant other is now telling me she wants to wait a year before moving I've had all I can take of this city and need to convince her the time is now!
