LTCF- Being in Allegheny Co., I didn't go through him, but I did grow up in Washington Co. I know a lot of people that got permits and didn't have any issues at all.

His family are avid hunters and all grow up around guns. We hear stories in the news that refer to a person's firearms collection as an arsenal when they have only 10 guns. Well, I could only image what they would say if they would have seen his father's house years ago. He has allowed me to target shoot on his property. Not sure if he still lives there though. I've talk to him about it.

* Disclaimer: I am related to him. Please don't think that I'm defending him, because he is related. As most people, I have some real a**holes as relatives and if this happened to them, I would not defend them at all. I don't believe in blindly supporting someone or whatever just because someone is my relative, political party, etc.

Mojo,

Thanks for your response, and for honestly disclosing that he's a relative and a friend of yours. I don't doubt the accuracy of what you've written, nor do I doubt that Sam Romano is very well liked as a person.

I do, however, think that you've just described every sheriff and chief deputy Washington County has had for the last 30 years, as far as being gun friendly. I got my permit during Sam Secreet's time and renewed it when Larry Maggi was Sheriff, and found the process easy and gun owner friendly. We have been blessed in Washington County in that respect, and it is also typical of most people that I've met throughout the county, outside of Peters Township (where I live, ironically).

We do have a lot of gun owners in Peters, but we also have some of the anti gun nuts. We had one town councilman a few years ago who felt it was his personal mission in life to make sure every gun in every home had a gun lock on it. Fortunately, he was defeated when he ran for county commissioner last year. And, of course, we had an effort last year by our town council to override the PA right to carry law. Amazingly, even after the town's own solicitor told the council that their ordinance would be struck down if challenged in court, the guy who was then chairman of the council, Robert Lewis, still voted against repeal (he also insulted several of us who spoke on the issue). Fortunately, the rest of council voted for repeal and the chairman is no longer chairman, though he is still a councilman.

Great ... so your agreeing with me. Sam is keeping up with tradition. Also, I have not found any evidence that Sam is not pro-gun. Although, lack of evidence doesn't really prove anything other that it hasn't happened yet.

Sorry to hear about that. It's never good to have people with blind agendas in public office. Hopefully, Mr. Lewis will be out of a councilman job soon.

Default Re: Washington Sheriff in hot water?

peter15317 I never met the current sheriff of Washington Co, I did meet some of his deputies and the ones that I met are pro-gun including chief Dalesando (spelling) dang nice guy BTW.

Also I know for a fact the Sheriff Romano got and received an endorsement by Firearm Owners Against Crime, and they don’t just hand them out to anyone like other groups have been known to do.

So without actually meeting the sheriff I would feel comfortable with a FOAC endorsement that he is Pro-Gun.

Thanks mojo for the inside intel....

His place was nice (not sure if he still lives there) ... he used to have peacocks and a bunch of other birds like that but one night some one came can kill all of them. It was a shame, some people are complete idiots.

White Feather,

I've known Jimmy D'Alesandro for years, he is a terrific guy.

Mojo,

I wasn't disagreeing with you about Sam Romano being gun friendly, I just didnt have an impression either way, having not renewed my permit during his administration (it's up next June), and was inquiring as to how you formed your opinion. I have met him only a couple of times, very briefly, and never really talked to him. I have heard that he is very well liked around the county. As I said, while I think his actions that day in West Virginia were wrong, (which he himself has stated publicly), it pales in comparison to things done by a lot of other elected officials over the years.

It's a shame about his peacocks.
