I have no idea what a dovetail is for mounting on a Mossberg shotgun.

But I'm gonna take a wild stab at it and say you are putting on a scope base???????????

If it was factory drilled and tapped, it should be a 8-40 gun screw.

If someone else did it... God Knows! 3-56, 6-48, 8-40 3/8-16

When you buy the scope mount for the 500, it will come with the appropriate screws. If you have the mount and no screws, just go see a gun smith. Those guys have tons of screws.
