Question Remington Shotgun

Anyone have any info on the Rem SPR453 semi. Are they worth the money ? It does not have to be a remington but who has the better but cheaper semi ?

Look into the Remington 11-87 Super Mag, it works well with the 2 3/4 high brass up to 3 1/2 shells. I am not sure if it is any cheaper but it is a great shotgun, I love mine.

Ummm well I only shoot low brass dove loads.. How about Charles Daley guns are they any good ? I think the 11-87 feels identical to my 870.But dont want to spend $600. The spr feels alittle better.

Don't really have any experience with the Delay's, something else you may want to look into is the Remington 1100. the 11-87 doesn't cycle 2 3/4 low brass to well at least in my experiences with it. I found a bad o-ring in mine and have since replaced it but I haven't run any 2 3/4 low brass through it to see if it has corrected the problem on not cycling the low brass rounds. Altough i have heard mixed reviews about low brass shells with it. I use it mostly for turkey and deer now so 2 3/4 shells aren't to much of a concern for me. If the 1100 is chambered for 2 3/4 and 3 only you might be better off with that. I don't know if you are looking for one that will do from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2. Without knowing your price range I can't begin to guide you one way or the other. I have few friends that have an 1100 and love them.

Those are the Russian auto's that EAA used to import. Remington simply puts their name on them. I think Balkial makes them. They run ok for the money.

The "remington" and the Chuck Daly are both semi-decent guns for the money of you don't shoot much. Neither gun will last long if worked hard. For under $500 I like the Stoeger 2000 series guns that use the Benelli operating system.

In the $600 ball park you can still find a few Winchester Super XII closeouts. The SX2's are worlds better than any of the guns above.

Consider that the average auto loader starts at around $1000 today.... for $500 or less, you are getting "half a gun".

I agree on the getting what you pay for but i've been using a 289$ 870 for 14 years with no problem so I figure a cheap semi will last me a few years for dove hunting

If you are looking for a shotgun for doves, and not one to shoot 3" - 3 1/2" shells....look for a Winchester 1400 or Win. Ranger 140 on Gunbroker.

The newer ones... made in the late 1980's bring around $275 and run like a top. They take Win-Choke tubes and most of them have a vent rib barrel.

I have one in 12 and one in 20 gauge. In fact, my "dove gun" is a Winchester 1400 20 gauge that I paid $250 dollars for. Never missed a beat. Very good guns for the cash.

+ for the 1100...My father has been using the same remington 1100 since 1970 and it hasnt missed a beat. I love that shotgun even more than my benelli. He also has a new browning gold hunter, and the 1100 shoots just as well if not better than it.

Here is a limited edition 1400 for a great price!

BTW: I'm also a huge fan of the 1100 Remington. I have 4 of them. Too bad the new ones are going for close to $700. Hard to beat a good used 1100.

1100s' are one of the best and have been around a long time (also has low recoil-gas operated-you will appreciate this after shooting the 870). It would be a good dove gun it's a might heavy to haul around all day for grouse. You can pick up a used one for about $300.00 - $350.00 if you look around. The 11-87 is basically the same (a little different under the forearm and barrel) gun but it shoots 2 3/4" and 3" shells.
Good luck with it,
Jim
