Default legality question on pistol grip

if i bought an old double or single barrel break action could i legally make the stock into a pistol grip as long as it within legal lengths? if i remember correctly its an 18 inch minimal barrel length and a 26 inch overall length of gun. and one last question can you cut down the barrel as long as it withinlegal length limits or is it illegal to change the barrel length from the factory size? i think it would be neat to buy one and do but don't wanna do anything illegal i like my current guns too much to have them taken away for stupidity lol

Default Re: legality question on pistol grip

Yes, you can install a pistol grip on a single/double barrel so long as the tube(s) are at minimum 18" measured from the breechface and the overall length is 26" or more. Having it a hair over helps just in case their measuring device is off a tad.

Single shots like the NEF/H&R will require about a 21" barrel because of the short receiver - confirm first before using the hacksaw.

You can cut it yourself legally - just remember barrel and overall lengths.
