No arguments here on the Rem 870. I love mine!! But my roomate just went through this same dillema since he got into shooting clays with me and using my gun but didnt have funds to spring for something higher line straight off. He ended up with a Mossberg Maverick, same piece they have in Wal-Mart and everywhere else, he paid under 150 for it and Ill be honest, Im blown away with how decently it shoots and works, and he hits with it, very well. Knowing your gun as an extension of yourself will always be worth more than the buying price of the weapon!!

You probably are going to want a semi for clays.
No disrespect..but an evil sporting clay shotgun? If he/she attempts to put that in the rack with the other fancy, clay shooter's guns they might sneer or steal his magazine. (lol) I'm sure they would at my local club. They all ride arould golf carts with neon colored over and unders.
I always wanted to take my Saiga12 with the 8rnd magazine just to stir the pot a smidge..but didn't.

ps: (I always try to fit in. My Saigas all sport American flag emblems on the buttstock so as not to scare the neighbors)

I vote for the Remington 1100 if you want a semi. My 870 is my go to gun and if ever forced to have only 1..she stays but for sheer semi-auto fun the 1100 is affordable with clean lines and graceful handling. I think they still make 'em here is America too! Let's as Mr. Zumbo!

I did get some funny looks, one guy did come over to ask me about it though since he wanted to buy one. For some odd reason I did better with my factory camo (with rifle sights) than I did with the standard black (which it has the vent rib style). The people I was shooting with had no problems with it, just wondered why I hadn't brought my 500 to which I responded "you told me to bring a semi!"

You can get a good used O/U for slighly less than a grand. On the other side of the coin we have a local dealer who advertises over 300 pump shotguns - most for under $300. many are under $200. I don't have much experience with semi's.
