Default help me get started.

hey guys, just joined this site. Never owned a shotgun before. From my other thread you can see I got a 16 gauge single shot that I haven't shot yet. I want to buy an inexpensive 12 guage, and I see the IAC model 982 and m37 might fit the bill. I won't be able to afford anything more expensive than one of these guns. I understand "you get what you pay for", but I am on an extremely tight budget. I like the looks of these models, and I just want a gun for some weekend shooting and for HD. Can you please give me some info on these guns and also if anyone has a favorite shop around the Pittsburgh area I might find one of these?

If things are tight, look for a used 870 or 500. Sometimes you can get a nice one for under $200 and I've see very workable ones for $125.

I agree with WVBob.. Look for a used Remi 870 or Mossberg 500. I got a "used" (certainly didn't appear to have been fired to me) with a normal stock and pistol grip for about $159 or something from my recollection.

Remington Model 870... new. They're inexpensive (around $300), very ergonomic, light, good looking, and very reliable.

I don't think that you can go wrong with an 870. I have two although 1 is a Marine Magnum and the other a P Max. You could CDNN, they had an 870 Express for under $200 I think and a Mossberg 500 for about the same if you are so inclined.

thanks, I searched more on the internet, and I think I'm gonna go with a new Mossberg Maverick 88. I can get one for 190 bucks. I figure that's probably the best price I'll get for a new gun. I haven't checked any shops for any used ones yet.

Gallery of Guns is a good site to go to and to get guns from. I've used them twice for .38 Supers and they ship fast.

+1 on the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. If you find a used one they're in the $150-$250 range and very functional. A quick home refinish and you're good to go. When you can afford it get a new stock set if needed and it's golden.

There is a Mossberg 500 with 4 choke tubes posted on the site $150. You can usually find them for this. Everyonce in a while you might find one with two barrells, slug and bid shot , for under $175 either posted or in a local paper fopr sale.
Get one of these or post want to buy , not real pretty , but they work great!
