Some of these will do some damage. To your barrel as well. |

When I was still working I used to get this question several times a year and I recomended #2 lead shot, it is deadly inside most houses and not so dangerous in town or as likley to kill after going through an inside wall.
A single 00B can kill at over 100 yards and after going through an inside wall or a single wall of a wood frame house. |

I read that when your in bear country, it's best to alternate rounds between a slug and #00 buck shot. I figure if it's good enough to stop a bear, it's good enough for HD, so that's how I keep my Mossy 500 JIC loaded.

Right now I got 1 oz 12 gauge slugs cause they were cheap and cheerful...Been thinkin bout getting some 00 TAP...
I was thinking of going camping with some friends out here this weekend but work is busy..It is spring and bears are out and about (we had two in town friday) I asked a friend what I should bring in the way of ammo incase a hungry sleepy bear wanders into the camp...He said "common sense" The locals out here are so helpful.... -A

Also remember you're at under 25 yard distances here. I think if kids are a concern than it's better to use birdshot and not kill than use buckshot and maim one of your children in another room.

DUDE! that would do some serious damage! I shot a turkey one time at 65 yards and dropped him on the spot with a 12ga 3 1/2 mag.

I'm REALLY, REALLY, REALLY not sold on the whole alternating rounds thing. I think you should pick one and stick with it. In bear country i'd probably stick with the bigest buckshot I could find. 3in. or 3 1/2in 00 or 000 buck. You could probably easily hit a bear with a slug, but a BG in the dark? Either way i'm from the school of thought that if you crack off a shotgun at someones head, even if you don't hit them you'll find shit stains all the way out the door. Good to hear from you Automous. Miss you brother.

I'd rather give my child a quick, painless death than to horribly and excruciatingly disfigure them for life. But that's just me. I couldn't bear to see them suffer for months and years because of a stupid mistake.
