Default Knoxx Sidewinder

I got my hands on a new (but without box) sidewinder kit for a mossberg 500 and a 6 round box mag. I got it mostly because it was a rare opportunity and I knew these kits are ussually $$$ and hard to come by.

I already have 2 Saiga 12s and plenty of 10rd mags so I got the mag fed shotgun bug out of my system and then some. I am considering putting it on my cruiser (the one with breaching barrel) just for the hell of it but don't want to risk loosing the reliability of my shotguns.

Anyone play with them and can tell me how reliable they are?

they are unreliable....and very difficult to set up, and get working properly.
these days, i wouldn't buy one on a bet.

before you start, get a spare magazine tube from Gunparts in case yours wont work, and you want to restore the gun to working condition

From playing with assembly it looks like it's great once the mag is seated properly etc. It took me about 3 or 4 tries ussually to seat the mag into the well. Looks like a bastardized take on the AK mag retention.

Would be fun for a range gun but I'll keep the bedroom mossberg and the office mossberg as is.

I'll probably either toss the sidewinder into the cate of "likely soon to be banned" stuff or sell/trade it.

I had one on a Maverick 88 with the drum mag, no sticks. The drum often would have problems feeding due to a slow "feed speed" as if the spring wasn't strong enough. Also I managed to loose a screw that held the drum together, so right now I need to go find another bolt if I want to put it back to working condition.

I wanted a 12 gauge with a higher capacity that was mag fed. I found a Saiga-12. I found the kit unreliable, hard to remove and the magazine was not very well made.

Isn't it awesome to be able to dump 11 slugs in under 4 seconds?

it should be mentioned that knoxx has discontinued the sidewinder and if u do find a kit it will be pretty pricey and finding mags will be hard as well......

I do have a brand new kit and a 7rd mag sitting on my parts bench now. I don't want to bother with the conversion, I have Saiga 12s. Judging by gunbroker prices people can't get enough of the sidewinder. I will very likely be listing my kit either here or on gunbroker soon.

thats cool, it just seems like people want it to say they have one.....i dont think it is very practical.....as u know for the same price as the shotgun and conversion kit, you could have a better gun such as saiga 12ga with a couple extra mags for the same price.......the sidewinder to me seems like a novelity

As I've said above in the thread I have 2 Saiga 12s and enough mags.

I managed to snag the new kit with mag for less then the going price of just the magazine on gun broker.
