Default Re: Are pistol grip shotguns legal in PA?

Rimfire Rat: no such prohibition as long as you stick with the OAL.
barrel at least 18" (I dont go less than 18.5" in case of muzzle damage) and an over all length of 26"

the prohibited offensive weapon thing applies to NFA length shotguns, and that drops off as long as the sub 18" and under 26"AOL gun is regged per NFA of 1934...meaning ATF SBS classification.

never heard of anything like that in law, my gunsmith regularly cuts barrels to 18" or more...or less if its a regged SBS.
I just trolled thru the prohibited off weapon statute, no restrictions prohibiting under 24" barrel.

If you cut one less than 24" in Pa they classify it a "Probiitied Offencive Weapon" ??? Go figure? Unless the laws have been changed, this is what I run upagainst. --Rat--
You can cut it to 18.0" but remember the barrel is measured from the *Bolt Face.
If length ever can into legal question they would measure with a rod inserted into the barrel and touching the bolt face. In which case it had better be 18.0" on the money. If you cut go for 18.125 or 18 and 1/8 to be on the safe side measured with a rod.
Or you could file a Form 1 pay the $200.00 Tax Stamp and have it registered as a SBS Short Barreled Shotgun. In which case you could cut to your Hearts Desire

Below is a Winchester 1200 cut to 13.75 and registered as a SBS and an Iver Johnson 20Ga. SBS

A Iver Johnson .20 Ga. SBS cut to 10.0"

AOW (Any Other Weapon) is $5. SBS, SBR, etc. are all $200. There are some AOW pistol grip shotguns (Serbu shorty, etc), but you can't put a full stock on them, or it becomes an SBS. An AOW never could have a buttstock on it as well otherwise it would be an SBS no matter what.

Form 1 is for YOU to MAKE an NFA weapon. AOW,SBS,SBR,DD all cost $200 to make.

Form 4 is to transfer an existing NFA weapon. SBS,SBR,DD,MG $200 to transfer, AOW $5 to transfer.
