Default Army Navy [Lehigh Valley]

Hey everyone!

First time post, just wanted to mention something. I've been reading that a lot of you don't seem to like Army Navy, but I have had nearly nothing but luck there the last 3 times I've been there.

First time I had went there with any money in my pocket, they had two Turkish 98K Mausers, both listed at 7x57mm. Picked one up for $150, and got a box of 7x57mm. Took it out to the range, and nothing but keyholes. Should have noticed that it's stamped 8mm on the end of the barrel, so I called them up, basically asking "WTF Mate" about marking it as 7x57. They said to bring it back so they could check it out, and sure enough, they were in fault. Thankfully the rifling and the barrel hadn't been messed up, so in compensation they gave us two boxes of the most expensive Federal 8mm Mauser boxes they had. They really didn't have to do that, and I thought it was awesome.

Next, I was in the market for a cheap tactical 12 Gauge shotgun, and I had been pricing Benelli Supernova's on GunBroker. A/N had the exact configuration I that I was look at for only $408.99, cheaper than any base price on GunBroker. (Think adding shipping and transfer.) Ended up getting it from A/N, and during checkout, they told me that there was unadvertised 10% off all firearm sales that day. Brought the price down to $368.99! Beat the pants off any price I'd seen online for the 26" barrel. Again, a great deal at A/N.

Finally, today, I was in the market for my first 1911 or another .45 of some sort. They had a few Ruger .45's that looked nice, like the Ruger P90, a Beretta .45 (forget the model, but was nearly $610 or so), and a Rock Island Arms 1911 for all around $400. I looked at the used pistols and saw a S&W 1911, Chrome, Used, no box or manual, just the firearm. Listed price; $650. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend since I had been looking at the Springfield GI for about $450-500 online. I asked the same salesman that I've dealt with each time, Paul, if $650 was the best they could do for us. He came back and said they could do $500, "since you're a repeat customer". The thing is almost brand new, ate 100 rounds today like nothin'. I've yet to see any other SW1911 for $500. What a deal.

Either the keyhole incident really set me up for good deals, or just being a repeat customer helps a lot. Or it's luck. Any way I look at it, it's been nothing but good deals. Anyone have anything else good? Anything bad?

~FireGS

P.S.; Always ask for Paul. Nice guy, knows his stuff, and a good guy to get to know at A/N.

Sounds like you're building a relationship with Paul, That is good. I have bought stuff from AN before, they usually have good prices on hunting ammo all before hunting season starts, too. I actually bought my first reloading setup from them years ago.

the problem with A/N is that it is entirely hit or miss... I've been in there a few times and have asked about guns and got massive attitudes that immediately turned me off from ever shoping there again. It sounds like Paul is a good guy to deal with but in your post there are 3 things that would concern me...

1. HOW do you supply the wrong ammo with a gun that you just sold? the potential for massive injury or death is huge. They gave you 2 boxes to shut you up and you keep you from suing them as they could have killed you with their negligence

2. Discounts that are not advertised always make me think of a shady guy dealing out of his trunk... Why would you not advertise a discount? thats just stupid, either its a discount on all guns or not. Also I'm always a little suspicious when a gun shop can undercut a standard list price buy 75 - 100.00 for their on the shelf price. when i see a price "too good to be true" it normally is, or the gun is used, damaged, refurbished... etc. You may have just gotten lucky

3. I don't like haggling. List the gun for what you are willing to sell it at. A good repeat customer may get 10 - 20 bucks off... not 150. They are trying to gouge their customers which is piss poor business practices if you ask me. If they are going to sell it for 500 to a "repeat customer" then list it at 550 for everyone else, not 650.

You clearly do not understand the concept of retail price and wholesale cost.

I challenge you to show me who has lower prices in the Lehigh Valley. You may find a gun here and a gun there that may be lower prices but overall, they have the best prices around and I've shopped at Boyer's, Cabella's, Golden Trigger, etc.

I have shopped at A/N several times and most of the time I just get an attitude from them. There are 1-2 guys that I can actually have a conversation about items that I am looking for and are willing to help me, but the rest just want to finish the deal as fast as possible (even when there's no one else there).

I have asked the manager, Glen, to order a pistol for me more than once and he says that he will look into it for me, but has never called me back on it and when I go back and ask him about it, he said that his suppliers can't get it (but they end up having the same pistol in a different configuration in there display case).

It may just be me, but at times it feels like I am just getting an attitude from most of them and I get the notion that they don't want to be bothered. I wish that there was another dealer close by, as I really don't want to deal with them anymore.

It's only take me 5 min to get to AN but I don't want to bothering those guys in there.

there prices always seemed high to me when sks's were 150 unissued at eagle arms they wanted like 219 for a beat to hell used one that was rattle canned black. sadly someone must have bought it after it layed in their shop for months cause it did disappear. but on the other hand i do ocasionally find deals there i bought a nice bulgarian makaro there for like 90 dollars out the door but they were having a 10% off sale at that time. i feal that to me atleast they are hit or miss on good prices mostly miss for me. but not to diss anyone we all have our favorite shops honestly i usually shop at boyers and i know a lot of people seem not to like them
