Default who can do an FFL transfer for me in NEPA?

Hi guys, I just bought an AR15 online and was loking for a local FFL who is willing to do the transfer.

I spoke to someone over at the Firing Line in Whitehall this afternoon who said if it's coming from an FFL all they'll charge me is for the paper work. Then when I called back again tonight to ask them to fax their license to the dealer I purchased the rifle from I spoke to a different guy who told me I had been misinformed and he wanted $50 + $30 paper work fees for the transfer because he is trying to run a business and can't compete with online pricing and yada yada. Well nice job, your ridiculously high transfer fees not only lost you any money you could've got from the transfer but possibly cost you a customer for life.

Basically he treated me poorly enough to not only chase me away from doing the transfer there but also got me seriously thinking about taking ALL my business elsewhere from now on, which is a shame since they're so close to my house and I enjoy using the range there.

/RANT

So anyway, now I'm looking for someone to do the transfer for me. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I charge $15. $10 for PAFOA members, but I'm a bit of a drive for you. (near I-80/I-81 intersection)

You can check the database on gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com (FFL finder) for more locals.

About a year or so ago I used the Army-Navy Store right by the mall - was $25 (or maybe $20).

Hi,
Have you tried A.F.Boyer right there in Walnutport, or Keifer's, across the bridge in Slatington? Both are good stores, and absolutely honest with customers.
You might also try Precision Armaments, which is also fairly close in Walnutport. Charlie's hours are a bit brief, but his prices on Prvi Partizan .223 M193 are great. He also works on, and builds guns.

If you want to take a drive to Brodheadsville - there's always Rich at American Sport Shooting - I know he charges a flat $35 w/ no recv. fee.

Good luck on your purchase, and don't forget to check in w/ Charlie about the M193. It's real good stuff - burns clean, shoots nice, with reloadable brass cases for a little bit more than Wolf.

Im not suprised he tried to charge you that much. I still play hockey and am a member of a online hockey board the most local hockey shops have the same feeling that guy does. People come into there shops and try stuff on and then order it from one of the big time hockey vendors online. Some of these hockey shops even charge a fee in you try stuff on and dont buy it. The last time I asked a dealer to do a transfer he tried to sell me something i didnt want then provided me with a business card and told me to have the seller contact him.

I agree with your position. I know a few dealers personally who don't like to do transfers on firearms that they don't sell because they are losing the sale on a comparable firearm that they have an investment in.

That said, most reputable dealers know that they will make up the loss in accessory and ammo sales over time. In fact, I know of one shop in particular where a customer did an internet transfer and ended up spending nearly $700 on a scope, mount, rings ammo, and extras.

Those dealers who charge exorbitant transfer and "recieving" fees are losing potential customers at a time when you have to choose between putting gas in your tank and buying another gun. I say that it is better to make a small profit on an internet transfer than to make nothing as another pissed off customer walks out the door.
