Eastern PA Group Shoot Planning - July 28th @ Wicen's (Wicen's Shooting Range, 3179 Mozart Road, Furlong, PA 18925): July 28th, 2007

OK all you Eastern Pennsylvanians. It seems that our members out west have been very successful at organizing and following through on some group shoots, and quite frankly it's making us out East look really bad. See here:

So, I'm starting this thread in the hopes that we can get our act together and organize a shoot. For now, time and place is TBD, but eventually we'll need to set a date and find a range to shoot.

Aubie and I are both members at the Elverson Rod and Gun Club in Elverson, PA. They have a nice range, but for an event with a large number of people we would likely have to rent out the range for the day; club rules technically state that only 1 guest is allowed per member. Otherwise, any other members that show up to shoot will likely get really aggravated that we've taken over the range. I can look into how much this would cost. In the meantime any other suggestions on where to shoot are appreciated.

As for a date, this is open for discussion.

As for travel, I know this is a concern for many of our members who live in Philly, as they don't own cars, and it's probably gonna be tough to take that M1A1 or AR15 on the train In any case, once we solidify a place and time, we need to identify members who need transportation and members who can provide transportation, and see if we can't get the car-less folks a ride to the event.

Best would be a Sat or Sun but would be willing to do a weekday too. Need a good outside range. W&W would have been perfect but they are closed.

I just want to revoice my concerns about supporting ranges that don't support our 2nd Amendment right (AKA no NFA), which Elverson falls into. Ranges in the area that do allow NFA are: Oley Fish and Game (in Oley), which is small and West Shore Sportsman Association (Harrisburg area) which is pretty big and could definitely handle the size (http://www.westshoresportsmen.org/).

im in for a weekend shoot. but im no help as i dont know anywhere to shoot. id be willing to pitch in a few bucks if need be to rent out a place.

lets give the west coast guys a run for thier money!

I'd be up for a group shoot over here in the Eastern half of PA, Saturday or Sunday, I live outside west Philly, let's get something together, make dem dar Pittsburgians jealous. I've met a few PAFOA folks at indoor ranges around here, all good folks, just hand guns so far, I only own one gun so I don't have much to contribute but I'd sure like to meet some more of you folks. With the price of gas I had planned on riding my motorcycle, however if there are folks nearby needing a ride I can handle 2 or 3 in my Saturn Vue, depending on if my fiancée is back from school and wants to go. She'll be in the Pittsburgh area last 2 weeks of June at Duquesne University.

A lot of gun clubs don't allow for full auto. There is more liability and more chances to tear up the target frames. Elverson has houses on both sides of the range, so if I was living there..I wouldn't want to hear FA nor would I want the risk of bullets flying near my home. If you don't want to shoot at a club that doesn't allow it...that is your choice. Just please stop the lecturing and the political BS. CR started the post to get members in Eastern PA to get together.

A shoot in December huh...I'm sure there will be openings in December for us to hold the shoot. Having a winter shoot would be fun. We might have to heat up our barrels to stay warm outside. Perhaps, we should bring a grill to fill our bellies with hot dogs as well.
