I'm a fan of the .35 Remington. I've hunted with one since I was 12, and I've dropped more deer with that than my Dad has with his .300 Sav. and my brother has with his .30-30.

There's just something about lobbing lead with a lever-action that keeps me loyal.

Of course with the new Hornady ammo, I may not have to lob the lead. All of the ballistic breakdowns I've seen say it shoots flatter and with more velocity/energy, so that 200-250 yard shots are much more feasible. Naturally, the real test comes when I'm in the woods.

Like others have said it depends on the need. Plinking for fun with some accuracy .223. I also like the .308 and my 300 Win Mag just as much for the longer range needs.

It's called Grice gun Shop. I live about 20 minutes from Grice's and I find an excuse to go there at least once a week.

While I agree with the majority of what has been said here, my fav is the mighty 30-06. IMO this caliber will do almost anything...

yeah, i have never really gona for the REAL distance shots with my 30.06 (mostly because there are no long ranges by me) but with the way it fires and how big the bullet is, i cant see anything moving, after taking a hit from one fo those. or any 30 cal bullet for that matter.

Default Re: Favorite Rifle Caliber and Why?

.308
One caliber,3 rifles.

49/56 + ten 10 round mags.
Garand,synth stocked.
SMLE w/scope.

One short battle rifle for close quarters.
One assault rifle for open areas.
One 'reach out and touch em' long distance tool.
