I am thinking about shooting the cmp matches at my local range again.I used to shoot my garand but since I've always wanted to buy an ar I thought this might be the time.Any thoughts on the bushmaster dcm model already set up for the competition,or the armalite,or any other's that may be out there? The rear sight option is .036,.040,.046,and.052"(I was thinking the.040).Front sight is .052 or.062.Appreciate any and all help, thanks.

I borrow my clubs Ar, its a CMP bushy. Real nice. My average score went from 375 shooting a garand to 430 on the ar (500 possible score). I belong to PMSC and non-members are welcome to attend. We have 2 of these ar's. First sunday of the month at 9am on the rifle range. I hope this helps.

If you want to get started shooting highpower you may want to consider a Rock River Arms NM model. From what I have read the problem with the Bushmaster is the trigger. It seems that their trigger doesn't last as long as others. I'm not sure if they still use that trigger now or not. I doubt either brand has an accuracy advantage over the other. You can probably get a better price on the RRA.
The WOA upper would be a good choice as well. The pinned sights are a good upgrade. White Oak is great to deal with too. Choose the one you feel comfortable with and don't look back. Any of them will take you as far as you want to go. It just requires effort on your part. As far as rear aperture .040 is a good place to start. It is probably what is most commonly used. Going smaller gives you more depth of field but can be too dark on overcast days. Larger makes the target brighter at the expense of depth of field. Front post width is personal preference although going too narrow can make it harder to focus on and possibly cause more eye strain. Posts and apertures are cheap get different sizes and try them for yourself to find what is best for you. You would probably want 1/4 x 1/4 min sights too. |

Saw a used Bushmaster at Gander Mtn in HBG. (Didn't notice price-sorry)
I thought it was stuck on the rack..(lol).. I guess they add alittle lead to the butt stock for dcm?!
