Default AK Lower Handguard Replacement

I had a small crack in the lower handguard of my AK-47 when it arrived. Lancaster Arms quickly shipped out a replacement so I'm ready to swap it out. Is there anything special I need to do or know when removing or reinstalling the lower handguard?

You have to remove the upper handguard/gas tube first.

Remove the reciver cover, recoil spring and charging handle/bolt/gas piston assembly.
On the RIGHT side of the rifle there is a small lever by the front of the rear sight, flip it up.
You then can lift the rear of the upper handguarand up and back to remove.
On the right front of the lower handguard there is a small lever, lift it and slide the whole assembly toward the muzzle. Once the lower HG is out of the reciever you should be able to remove it from the front ferrule.

Assemble is the exact opposite. Any questions let me know...

Another great source:

The AK was designed to be a very simple rifle to strip.

just be aware for parts count issues that the TDI handguard sets are not US Made, they are made in israel.

They don't tell you on them anyplace the country of origin:-)

Thanks for the info and websites. I swapped out the handguard and it looks great. Closer that lever after installing the new handguard was VERY tough but I finally got it.
