Default AR question for you AR guys

Hey there guys, I have a question about the AR, I have an Olympic Arms AR15 Carbine. It has the perm carry handle and I am looking to get a flattop upper and was wondering what the difference between these two are (first two on the page). Now I know some of you may say just throw away the Oly, but while I may agree with that I am not in a position to do that, so I have to work with what I got.

Does it matter which one I get? What is the major difference between the two? Thanks in advance for you help.

Jim

The second one has M4 cutouts in the receiver. These are grooves cut into the receiver that follow down from the barrel extension toward the magwell.

If your existing barrel extension has the deeper/wider feed grooves cut in it then that is what you want.

Receiver w/ M4 cuts & Extension w/ M4 cuts = Good
Receiver w/ M4 cuts & Extension w/0 M4 cuts = BAD
Receiver w/0 M4 cuts & Extension w/ M4 cuts = OK
Receiver w/o M4 cuts & Extension w/o M4 cuts = OK

Didn't have much to add to the thread, other than a pic of my AR which is a flattop. It's an L.A.R. Grizzly lower with a DPMS 16" chrome-moly upper. I added after-market pistol grip and forestock vertical grip.

Here's mine, but I feel the need to add a flattop. Hopefully soon.

i have a fixed upper, bought a tri rail for 35 bucks at the gun show, goes right in the hole so i can mount a scope or whatever... i currently just have a flash light on it. but im sure a scope would mount fine... although i guess it would sit kinda high... not sure how it would look..

That's kinda what I am worried about, so I am going to go with this upper.....

Then I can have the flattop and put a carry handle on it if I want to.
