Default Ultralite50 50 BMG upper?

I've wanted a 50 BMG rifle for some time now. I know I won't be shooting it as often as my other firearms and the ammo is expensive so I can't see going crazy and spending many thousands of $ on a rifle I may only use a few times a year. The new Shotgun news was filled with bolt action uppers for the AR that look interesting. I looked at most online but have no knowledge or first hand experience with them.

The one I'm kinda interested in is the ultralite50. Does anyone know anything about these? Are they good.....are they junk? They look nice from the pictures I see but I am always worried when I can't see something in person first.

sounds like we are in the same boat, i'm up right now cause I can't sleep because i've been busting my brain so damn hard on these 50's.

I'm not sure on the ultralites, besides the fact that they are IMO to much money, you need to remember that by the time you get the parts for the lower your not gonna be seeing much of a difference in price from a serbu BFG, which are built like a tank and prob the best buy out there.

I think i'm gonna bite the bullet and go buy an AR-50 in a few hours.

i heard there pretty good for the money. before you even consider getting one do some research on reloading, because thats one thing you dont want to do is shoot someone else' s ammo unless it comes from a very reputable manufacture, and your going to pay anywhere from 3.50 - 10.00 a round. also join the fifty caliber shooters association. (fcsa) they helped me out tremendously.. if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask. bogey

If you are a patient person, consider www.bohicaarms.com. Great price and cool looking rifle, but most folks have been waiting almost a year for them. They don't ask for any money until the upper is ready to ship, so you can always go place an order and then cancel it if you find something else.

Rumor is he is going to start cranking them out faster now. I just placed my order about 2 months ago, so I still have a bit of a wait.

Me too guys.
I was looking at bohicaarms myself, and they seem pretty reasonably priced.
They look cool to. But the wait is insane....I am impatient.

I was tempted to buy a single shot Grizzly Big Boar .50 BMG at the Valley Forge Gun show. I could have got it for $1900 cash out the door.
But I passed. My only problem with the BMG, is where can I shoot it.

It is all in the muzzle break ! I had a Grizzly beat the crap out of me ! I have shot the AR50 and it shoots like a dream you could shoot it all day (if you can afford it) . I have shot a few others and my conclusion is the AR50's break on any of the 50's out there is a must .

So you can have well over $2000 involved in a single shot AR with .50bmg upper afterthought that has horrible recoil, or you can spend $1000 more and buy a purpose built "tactical".50 bmg (the AR50 comes to mind), or even the same price for a hunting .50 bmg .

I'm not sold on the entire .50bmg upper idea. I bit the bullet and ordered a Bushmaster/Cobb BA50, 10 round detachable mag, with little to no recoil (mainly thanks to the brake that you could also put on the AR .50 bmg uppers, but also thanks to the fact that it's double the weight and designed for .50 bmg).

If I am not mistaken the AR50 and the Bushmaster BA50 have basically the same break?

You are correct, as well as the Barrett's, it's the same general idea.

When I said "put on the AR .50 bmg uppers", I am referring to an AR upper that is .50bmg, not an AR50 (which I previously recommended him looking in to).
