Default Remington 700 "Tactical" ..........

Well, just bought this bad boy. My first bolt action. I'm excited.

Here are the specs:

Trued remington action in .308 win, Rock creek 22inch SS 1-11.27 twist HV, Badger ordnance recoil lug, Manners T4 carbon fiber stock that is pillar and glass bedded plus 3 swivel studs, Callahan oversize bolt knob, Callahan steel bottom metal, EGW 20 moa scope base. Duracoated in OD Green and Black.

Did I do good?

Best I can do on pics for the moment. All he had... I pick it up in a week.

Looks like a hell of a rifle Stack. Who "trued" the action for ya? Is it a full blueprint of the action (sleeved or new fit bolt), trued lugs, squared, threaded, etc? Or is it just cleaned up a little so that the face is square and the lugs are square? Sounds like it'll be a hell of a shooter. It looks from the barrel contour though that it'll be a little bit of a heavy one, hope you don't intend to shoot off hand with it much or carry it around a long distance. Beautiful rifle, good job, HELL OF A START!!

Hey Tomcat...thanks for the reply.

All good questions, most of which I had no idea to ask or think about

Laney's Gunsmithing out in AZ had this one up for sale. Judging by the price I paid in comparison to say a TacOps model (again, I am speaking out of school here) I would guess it's just cleaned up but I could be way wrong here. I will email and find out!

Heavy sounds good to me. The furthest I will be carrying this one is from the trunk to the bench I am a former 7th ID Light Fighter though, lugging a payload for miles on end was a daily routine for me. Nowadays though ... not so much!

Anyway - I will look into those questions for my own sake. Thanks for pointing them out!

You're welcome buddy, and no worries at all. I'm not familiar with that smith, but it doesn't mean anything at all, there's alot of great smiths that aren't well known by everybody in the country. I have a great gunsmith that nobody knows, but he makes rifles that shoot 5 shot .0's and .1's, you don't get much better than that. Just because you didn't pay what a TacOp's cost, doesn't mean it's not a fully blue printed action, lol. They're superb rifles, but alot of guys think they're just a bit on the high side for what you get. Either way, it's a rifle that comes with a .25moa guaruntee, so you can't complain a bit. Alot of the time when people say a "trued" action, it's just the lugs faced and squared, and the face of the action squared. Either way, it's not gonna change things all that much unless you're a hardcore BR competition guy, and in that case, you got the wrong stock, lol. It'll do exactly what you want it to do without any problems or hickups I'm sure. Good thing you won't be carrying it a long ways, but from what you said, you know how to haul a load a ways, lol. Take it easy and let me know what you find out.

P-11: Thanks man! Will do. Not sure on the glass yet, we shall see what Vegas does to me over the next 8 days. Be back on the 12th. Will let you know then

Tomcat: I hear you man, sometimes the unknown guys are the ones that really know their stuff. Laney's has a rifle on it's way to Sniper Central so I guess we will see a review shortly. Either way, I have a feeling it's more capable than I am at the moment. Definitely enough to get me going.

Switching from F/A to bolt action is going to be fun - and strange at the same time. Can't wait!

Ammo is NOT cheap though - yet another reason to get into reloading

Whoa!
That is a mean looking Remy.
I don't have any bolt action rifles yet, and I have been wanting a 700 in 308, now you made the itch even worse.
I can see the decimals dropping in my bank account now.
Congrats brother, on another fine addition to your collection.
Let us know how your first date goes.....

Be safe,

Hey thanks Ronnie. Another one I need to sneak past the wife .. I hear you on the decimals.

Hey, if she gets smart and throws me out I might be on your couch. We can double our collection size overnight! haha

Will post back with results in a couple of weeks (still need a glass for up top)

Come on Vegas! Daddy needs a new Night Stalker!

Congratulation! Sounds like a shooter. And I've heard really good things about those Manners stocks.

The ammo cost adds up fast. I'll be looking for some realoading gear this winter myself.

Good luck in Vegas (scope....rings....sling.....$$$$)

Hey Stack,
Ammo prices are bitch today.
Here is a great site for ammo.
I buy most of my ammo here in bulk, they have some of the best prices, and they e-mail you when ever they are running specials. Check'm out.

At the rate you are going, you might want to start reloading.....
I just might start myself.
