Just got a 1903-A3

Anyone know anything about these? I want to get an original stock for it. Can I shoot any old 30.06 out of it? Anyone know the value?

Can't tell from the pics but it looks sporterized. That would also be my guess since you are looking for a replacement stock. If so, not much value for a collector. With the correct stock and everything else in good condition, I would say the value is $500-600. Maybe even a little more since you have the Smith Corona. They made typewriters in case you didn't know.

Yes this is a good 'ol American .30-06 battle rifle. These originally shot 150 gr ammo so I would stick in that neighborhood to start with any commercial ammo. Surplus Greek would be even better. CMP is the best place to get it but if you aren't hooked up with them, gun shows will have some and sometimes shops although prices will be higher (they gotta make a livin' too as my Dad likes to say.)

There was supposed to be another picture there that showed the whole rifle, dont know what happened to it. Any how, it was never drilled/tapped, or cut down. Someone just put a sporter stock on it. Where is a good place to get a correct stock?

Numrich www.e-gunparts.com and www.sarcoinc.com should have what you need. Boyds makes replacement stocks but with a little searching you can find GI stocks in good condition for the same price or cheaper. I would try and find GI.

You may want to post in www.surplusrifleforum.com in the US bolt action section or www.forums.gunboards.com in the Michael Jon Littman's US Weapons Forum There are quite a few experts in there that could point you in the right direction and even tell you about your rifle.

Yes, you can shoot modern .30/06 ammo in the rifle. I don't buy or shoot factory ammo, so all my ammo is handloaded but I have shot 150-165gr ammo in mine. Very, very accurate.
