First off, my apologies C.Sander for pulling the focus off of your post. I don't mean to get in a flame war here, just wanted to respond to the post. Anyway, sorry buddy.
I understand what you're saying, I'm just saying that that particular rifle is over priced for the specs. For that kind of money you get a much better rifle, that's my opinion. You're talking about comparing one of their packages, the GAP Crusader, to a package rifle from IBA. That's all fine and dandy, but I'm just saying you could have GAP build you a rifle exactly to your specs, how you want it, with better components for less than what that package IBA rifle has. If you want other options on the IBA, you have to pay even more money. I mean come on, the rifle is built on a Remington 700 action and it costs that much money. With that kind of budget you could build a rifle with a custom action of your liking from Surgeon, BAT, Lawton, etc. You wouldn't be using a Remington 700 action that has to be fully blue printed and sleeved, or a new bolt installed and timed. You'd have an action that probably has an integral rail and is to MUCH tighter tolerances. I realize tighter tolerances in some areas can make for malfunctions, but some of these action makers have actions specifically made for tactical shooting. They say the "box magazine is welded to the receiver for durability." Have you ever seen the opinions of some of the top gunsmiths in the US and how they feel about welding heat treated receivers? Do some searching about welding bases to Remington 700 receivers and see how far that gets you. On that same Chandler, you also end up with the factory trigger; not to say Remington has bad triggers (I love them) but you can get much better triggers. A hart barrel? They're ok, but most people would agree that on a tactical rifle, they would rather go with something from one of the other manufacturers like Krieger, Rock, Shilen, etc. To be perfectly honest, I don't care if Kelly McMillan recommends IBA, or if IBA recommends Kelly McMillan. Not to say that either makes a bad product, Kelly McMillan makes great products and is constantly innovating new ones. Either way, I know lots of tactical shooters and talk to them daily, and most of them aren't shooting McMillan or IBA rifles. Does that mean that they're bad or junk? Of course not, it just means there's probably better ways that people think their money can be spent. A sub moa rifle is a sub moa rifle; as long as the gunsmith or someone reputable will service it, it doesn't matter who's name is on it. I personally believe that the money is better spent getting the same sub moa rifle from someone else, with the specs that you want to fit you, and spending the rest of the money on good ammunition and reloading supplies. P.S. You can bust on GAP, but they would NEVER send out one of their rifles with that crappy of a paint job, especially not for $5,400. Last edited by Tomcat088; August 22nd, 2008 at 02:45 PM. |

Very, very nice! I can't wait to see the finished product.
When you post up a range report, be sure to also post up a review of that Lithuanian ammo. I ordered a test batch of it for my AR-10, but I would like to hear how it performs in a bolt action rifle as well. |
