Default Need help with a mosin scope....

I'm trying to help a friend with his M91/30. He bought a scope mounting kit and we can't seem to get the rear sight aperature off. I have both the pins removed from side, but it seems like the darned thing is welded on there tighter than a virgin on prom nite. Anybody have any suggestions as to how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Its been my experience with Russian rifles (mostly on Saigas ) that when you understand which way the part is supposed to come off and it won't budge, you're not using a big enough hammer.

That being said, I'm not as familiar with the rear sight setup on the 91/30s to tell you if there is a way to drift it out....or at this point if it drifts at all....now that I think about it.

According to every thing I've seen online it is supposed to drift off toward the end of the muzzle, over the dovetail, I gues we need a bigger hammer. I was worried cuz we're using a 3lbs sledge and it still won't budge.

Also there is a very small rectangular hole in the top of the mount that looks like a key of some kind was dropped in there at some point.

Try heating it with a torch while hitting it.

I gave it back to my buddy and he brought it into work lastnight and we put it on the press, or well a 20ton bottle jack, mounted to a press, and it did not budge. I told him to try the torch thing, but neither of us has one.
