Cast receiver= junk

.
I had one and sold it recently. It had the issue where it was hard to cock, apparently an indication of poor assembly. Although it shot fine for me, the general consensus on the boards has been the receivers loosen up over time. I never put much stock into that until I saw how it was assembled. A friend of mine bought it with the intention of replacing the receiver (basically for parts). After he tore it down I was amazed to see they literally used red loctite to hold it together along with 2 pins driven vertically through each side of the trunnion. After that I tend to believe things could loosen up over time. I got the receiver back from him, its on my desk as a paperweight. Yes its the HK roller design, standard HK furniture will fit except for some fitting due to the bulkiness of the receiver. If you decide to pass and its available for a decent price, I know someone who'd like it for a rebuild. .

I had a FA-91 that was home assembled. it shot well. I sold it for parts when it ceased to headspace properly.
the ones that are put together well, shoot well. mine shot accurately up until the day I disassembled it. if it headspaces properly (see HKPro forum, or similar) shoot it until it doesn't work, then rebuild on a PTR receiver and trunion, or sell as a parts kit (worth about $500-$600) and buy a new PTR. just watch your headspace. question is, how cheap is cheap? |
