Default Yugo sks 59/66

I have a Yugo sks 59/66 with gernade launcher. My question is can the gernade launcher be removed and the rifle can be used without it? If so, how do you remove the launcher ? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks James

jamesmp,
Welcome to the forum.
I can't properly answer your question, but here's a fun reason to leave it ON...

Best $45 accessory I ever bought. Guaranteed to put smiles on the faces of everyone around when you yell, "FORE!"
(Well, some people shake their heads and look at you like you are nuts, but...)

If you don't get an answer here, try over at http://www.sksboards.com/ there is a LOT of helpful info on SKS rifles there.

The simple answer is yes.
That is if you are ref. the adaptor at the end of the barrel on the M59/66.

There is a pin that needs to be removed that holds the adaptor in place and keeps it from spinning off. Once removed the threads are RH. A pipe wrench may be needed to remove the adaptor.

Once removed you are converting the gun from it's C&R status.
(no longer C&R)
Title 18 USC § 922(r).

Thanks for the welcome and answer to my question, Emptymag and Fragger.
Checked out the website on the golf balls (Emptymag) Looks like that would be fun, and would lose alot of golf balls, but still looks fun. Thanks again James.

Also, the launcher attachment doesn't affect accuracy. The Yugo M59 is a nice alternative, if you don't like the look of the launcher. If you can find one, it's probably cheaper than Russian or Chinese at this point.

Those M59's are getting hard to find aren't they? (smile).

Condition wise same/same Yugo M59 vs Type56 Chinese me thinks you'd do better price wise as well as availability with the chicom. If you're thinking that route.

The added feature of a chrome bore on a chicom vs non-chrome of the Yugo is a + too.
JMHO and slightly off topic. But it makes $ if your going to make the M59/66 compliant after removal of the nade launcher attch.

I would think twice about removing the grenade launcher. Not only the C&R status issues brought up but also it will destroy the value of the rifle. If you hate the launcher, there are many other SKS variants that don't have them.

This is how a collection starts!
