I didn't go overboard because I wanted it to stay old looking but I didn't want to have any rust on it. The buttstock is not the same wood as the rest of the gun so it has most likely been replaced. Then again, during the war, I don't know if they cared about making things match. Maybe they had different piles of inventory. There is what appears to be a "JC" in the stock and the buttstock.

She is a looker for her age!!! Very nice rifle, they have a kick to them but they are very accurate. Enjoy her I know I would.

I want one so bad, but I also want a k31. I also need to buy magazines and ammo for my m1a and ak so I think I'll be waiting a while for an enfield and a k31.

I think I need to go pick from my money tree, anyone want to help? .

I got to shoot the Enfield tonight. Wow, what a great rifle. That .303 rd really packs some punch to it too. After cleaning her up, she was growing on me. After shooting her, I'm in love. Of all my bolts, I would prefer this one in battle. There is no doubt you could cycle this one faster than any other, it holds 10rds in the mag, and the sights are great.

You have described the rifle in the classic (and correct) way! The SMLE, in all its forms, is a great battle rifle. Did you know that there are three different buttstock lengths? Are there any other mil. rifles that can be adjusted to suit the rifleman? How about the replaceable bolt heads to fix headspace as the rifle ages? I think there are 6 sizes. You can reload to reduce recoil. I have used 50BMG powder (cheap) to load target loads at 2000 FPS, little recoil, much accuracy.
