I missed UPS last night. It is waiting in a box for me so it should be there when I get home tonight. I don't believe I will put a scope on it though. The ammo for the Carcano and Arisaka is all able to be acquired on the web but it's not as cheap as the Mauser, Mosin, or Enfield ammo. I'll probably just keep 100rds on hand so I can take them out now and then.

So.. along with snagging the Carcano and Arisaka, did I mention that I picked up a gorgeous French Mas-36?

Pector, I assumed your not married, you are wealthy or have damn good credit! You have bought more guns in a week that I have all year! OK not quite but you get the point. Sorry just jealous.

I have been looking for a Jap T99 for awhile but I haven't found "the one." A woman I worked with offered to sell me the T99 her father brought back from Okinawa. It's a late substitute with the mum and all matching. For a split second I went WOOHOO but then came to my senses and explained to her that she needed to keep this heirloom in her family for future generations. It was starting to rust so I cleaned it for her, wrote down the rifle's info for her and gave her some cleaning supplies so that every year on her father's bday (he's deceased) she will give it a squirt of oil. I feel it's a shame that many families don't see these souvinirs as a reminder of what their family members did for all of us. These families just see these as old junk and can't wait to dump them to make a few bucks.

Pector55;

I currently own a type 99 Arisaka and although it looks like a truck ran it over, its all matching save the dust cover and shoots pretty well. Mum is ground but remnants of it remain. From a looks standpoint this gun will win no beauty contests with its beat up stock, varnish coming off and rusty metal, but it operates smoothly and groups pretty well. I really like this gun even with all its faults and will one day soon be making the trip to my local gun store to see if they have any more that want to come home with me. I agree that Arisakas are addictive.

As to Carcanos, I just never had an interest in Italian made guns, and don't ever plan to own one. I can't explain why but I just never took an interest in them.

LOL I'm married and not wealthy. Keep in mind that C&R guns are typically a LOT less expensive than the modern stuff. I only own 1 AR, 1 SAR2, and 1 RPK. Other than that, almost everything I own is adding to a WWII collection. All 4 Mosins add up to $265. I did charge two guns recently. I put a CMP M1 Garand and a Century M1 Carbine on my Mastercard but I justified that based on the card still being in the 0% APR AND it's from Second Amendment Foundation.

I was holding off on the last 3 guns but decided just to snag them to finish my collection. I won't be buying much else this year. I have to pay off the Garand and Carbine before Xmas.

Hi Marvin

Welcome to the forum. 2 things:

1. What "44" do you mean? A Jap Type 44 or Mosin M44 or something else?

2. This would qualify as starting a new thread. You would get more responses that way.

Bolts on Type44 is same as type 38.
So just search gunbroker or something in that area for type 38 bolt
http://members.tripod.com/~Berk1/

However, Pre-Type 99 Arisaka's are pretty much put together by hand. So don't be suplised that if it rattles or bit on tight side

You may want to try http://forums.gunboards.com/ and scroll down to the Japanese section. Or www.surplusrifleforum.com and scroll down to the Japanese section. Both are good sites and many Jap experts will be both places.
