Yes, I will be finishing inletting the stock. The fore end is actually very long, so that last part of the barrel channel that isn't inletted will probably get the chop. The gunsmith is one of my best friends, so I'll be helping him do all the work on it (and so I can learn to do it perfectly). We will install pillar bedding where you see the screw holes at. We'll smooth up all the round parts and if it's a bit too tight of a fit some places open it up so that we'll have enough room to glass bed the action and the first inch or two of the barrel, the rest will be free floated. I will actually have to open up the front recoil lug a little bit, I will be using a wider recoil lug for a bit of added stability.
Richard's actually inletted the stock for the wrong barrel. I told them I was putting a Remington Sendero contoured barrel in it and they said I'd need the thicker barrel channel, so I said ok. I didn't think about it too much, but when it got here, I thought, dang, that looks a little wide. When the gunsmith saw it, he said "why such a thick barrel channel?" Then I told him they did and he said, well, it's actually the wrong one. He said that it won't hurt the accuracy of the rifle, but it'll just have "alot of float", as he put it. Either way, I really don't care if it floats more than most barrels, just as long as it's a shooter. I'll also probably be changing up the front shape of the high cheek piece a little bit. The rifle is a long action and I'm pretty sure that the bolt will hit the cheekpiece, so I gotta pull it back and I also want that cheek piece to not hang over my thumb as much as it does. The pistol grip is VERY wide and so I'm thinning it down and reducing the palm swell some also. They leave lots of extra wood on these things so you can shape them to how you want it to be. I've been sanding for hours and hours on the thing and will have some more photos of how it's starting to change soon. |

OK, been a while since I've updated here. Some things have changed, but not necessarily for the worse. The stock that I had photos of here isn't gonna work out. The guys at Richard's inletted the stock for a MUCH larger barrel, and it just completely swallowed it up. I already have a back up plan, just trying to get rid of this stock first because I got so much money out on this rifle. I decided on a Bell & Carlson Medalist, which some others here have grown fond of after I talked about in in chat, so ya'll have seen it. Either way, mine will be quite unique after the paint is done, you'll see. The action has been blueprinted and a PTG lug that has been pinned to the action. I took some pictures of the rifle and wanted to post them. They're not that great, the room was kind of dark for photos, and the flash was just making things over exposed or the focus to be off. Here's a few of the rifle still in the lathe after we threaded it and counter bored it. We did bore the chamber but I wasn't paying attention and didn't get some photos. Then we did the recessed crown and polished it up. The barrel is going to be bead blasted with some very fine beads, and then repolished. This will add some contrast to the flutes and still leave the barrely shiny. Then I just gotta get the stock in, bed it and we'll be good to go, because all the other parts will be installed. Tell me what ya'll think.

Lol, it's almost all done. I got the stock in today and took it over to the gunsmith's. We bed the rifle together and I left so that it could set. The bottom metal should be here on tuesday or wednesday of this next week. On tuesday I should be getting my one piece scope mount, and so it'll all be ready to go. I got a deer hunt of a lifetime that I gotta have it ready for (not this weekend, but next, the 15th), so it's gonna be done. I'll get you all some photos of it when it's finished. The free rail won't get put in until I get back from the hunting and then I'll probably slap some paint on it. Just figured I'd give some of ya'll the skinny that have been keeping an eye on it.
P.S. Lycan, I think even the barrel is gonna be 2 tone by itself. I'm gonna bead blast the barrel, then repolish it, so that the flutes are bead blasted and the barrel is polished stainless. For now, I'm just gonna beadblast the barrel until I'm done with the hunt, so that I don't have to take the barrel off of the action, polish it, and then proper headspace and time the flutes. Probably after Christmas I'm gonna slap a different bolt handle on it, just want to lay off the spending and get some lowers right now, lol. You will like it though, I promise. Ok folks, I got some teasers for ya. I was at the gunsmith's tonight and didn't have the digital camera with me, but I did have my phone; it's just a razr, so the pics kind of suck, sorry. Anyway, the rifle is completely together and will fire, but my scope base wasn't in yet, so tomorrow the scope will be mounted and I'll be firing it. I will then have some proper photos of it, but for now this will have to do. As I have said in my last post, this is coming together so that I can take it on my deer hunt, so it's not quite all finished and polished and actually has more features, just not shown yet. Hope ya'll enjoy.
