When you think about the 'mistake' in bombing the factory it really makes a lot of sense ... Clinton was (and is) so anti assault weapon its not funny so what better opportunity to "remove part of the problem" than an "oops" bombing of the factory .... not every day you get that kind of chance

OK. Nobody seems to be getting this?! All the Yugo AKs that you've seen come over here in the past few years are ex-military, ex-select fire rifles with three stops on the selector: safe, single fire, and full auto. Their receiver is torched out, and the kit parts are built onto US made receivers that usually include US made FCGs. Google up "922r" to see about parts compliance. So far as I know, only Arsenal from Bulgaria and the arms factory in Cugir, Romania: http://www.arms.home.ro/arms/pg/index.html Romanian rifles here!

By the way, not everything from Zastava is off the table: http://www.zastava-arms.co.yu/images...bini/16251.htm

Default Re: Why no more Yugo AKs?

A variety of events have occurred to contribute to the demise of the Century-inexpensive Yugo M70's;
possibly the bombing of the original factory inside Serbia, possibly the entire dissolution of Yugoslavia as we once knew it - but most definately - the end of the line of complete, serviceable/readily-restorable M70 parts kits available to Century to inexpensively build and sell.

There are still Yugo kits out there - it's just that remaining kits are in the private market or the "boutique builders".

One will still be able to buy a Yugo - just not at the Century price-point we have been spoiled with.

Even if you pay $700.00 for a Century Yugo M70AB2 - you are getting your moneys worth.

Are you sure it wasnt an SKS rather than an AK. Thats the only thing I can think of. $275 for a Yugo AK still fresh with goop, if thats the case, man buy a few.

Its not beyond the possibility that these were "new, unissued" SKS rifles from the armories, but most likely they are *unissued factory re-builds* of Yugo SKS rifles - absolutely NOT the AKs.

The pre-Klinton ban CHICOM SKS's used to go for $80.00 and up in new, covered-in-CHICOM-chapstick condition.

The Yugo SKSs qualify for C&R status as long as they go unchanged. The similar CHICOMs do not enjoy the same protection - (maybe as they were not as scarce plus the politics of the 90's).

As others have posted, the only complete, foreign-made "AK" coming into the US - for now - are the 922-sporterized WASRs and SAIGAs. If McCain wins - we may see the upcoming sporterized Zastava Yugo AKs again.

What the others said...no way were those AKs at $275, just not possible, they were SKS rifles.

Also, while it's sad that the Yugo kits might have dried up, God knows that there are PLENTY of other AKs available. Romanian WASRs, Polish Tantals, Hungarian AMDs, Egyptian Maadis, Bulgarian SLRs, Chinese Polytechs and Norincos, Russian Saigas...the list goes on and on.

We're hardly bereft of AKs, folks!

But there aren't that many that are below $600 any more except the Romanian and a few post-ban Chinese. Most Yugos are get over the $600 mark. It's supply/demand, not really complaining but it would be nice to have huge supply hit the market

I would love to have a Poly UF but I'm just having a hard time dropping $1300+ on it.

To celebrate the Heller decision by the SCOTUS, myself and others gathered at the Dunham's in Butler, PA. to buy some AKs. Good supply and selection. I grabbed a M70AB2 Yugo under-folder by Global Machine and Tool in Rhome, Texas (according to the receiver stamp). Two mags and a sling for 467.49 (plus tax and instant check). A few of the other guys were buying WASR-10 rifles on sale for 379.99 (double stack). There was a kick-ass thunderstorm going on, so we were all concerned that the lights would go out and no-go on our purchases. Luckily, the lights (and phone) stayed on. I'll be burning a few hundred rounds of Wolf FMJ tomorrow, range report to follow...
