a buddy of mine and i were talking about this subject not too long ago and came up with the perfect survival weapon to be a .22lr rifle, he has a 10/22 and i have a Remy tube fed semi and a Marlin synthetic tube fed bolt action model 25 T i believe,
there cheap to buy cheap to get ammo for and light weight and in a survival application can put down deer size game with proper shot placement .... get a 22 rifle a brick of ammo and hide that thing ina wall or something for just in case.. |

I first had/have the marlin 60. love the rifle but was not practical to hunt with (NY State). When ever crossing fense lines or a creek (on icy log which i had to do everytime i went out), it was a pain to unload and reload. so i got the 1022. love that gun too. for survival think i might go with an m1 carbine. about same size of the 1022 and more powerful cartridge. |

LOVE the M1 ccarbine. Light, small, accurate out to about 100yds, higher velocity at 100 yards than than a .357 at its muzzle, and its got the circle and post sights, too! The only issue with that compared to the 10/22 is the cost of ammo and availability of ammo. I seem to recall something about .22LR being the most popular caliber of firearm in the world.

dont get me wrong fellahs, i dont mean to say that it should be used for deer sized animals, but in a survival aspect you can kill game rabbits birds squirells , its a light easy to manage weapon and same with the ammo, remember we are talking survival.
i have seen a deer taken with a .22 when i was a young boy it was within 30 yards and no it didnt just drop but it didnt go far, a well placed head shot did the dead.. dont get me wrong, i would have my pistol with me and preferably a sawed off shotgun and a good .30 cal rifle also ... |
