i have seen a deer taken with a .22 when i was a young boy it was within 30 yards and no it didnt just drop but it didnt go far, a well placed head shot did the dead..
dont get me wrong, i would have my pistol with me and preferably a sawed off shotgun and a good .30 cal rifle also ...

No real argument from me. even though i like my .30 cal carb. a .22lr would be great to have in a survival situation.

Unless we're talking a military invasion, I'll take a shotgun. Easy to hunt everything from birds to bears with a minimal ammo selection...it also works well on two-legged predators. There aren't many longarms that can compare to the versatility of a shotgun in a non-combat survival scenario.

Strength in numbers, everyone in your group has a different weapon for a different purpose.

If I were roughing it myself though....I'd take an AK or an AR along with a sidearm.

But then you lose the benefits of shared equipment. Your AK mags and ammo won't work in your buddy's AR, so when he's out, he's out, period. His spare firing pin set won't fit your rifle, and none of your springs will work in his. Just a thought.

I've got an AR15, FAL, AK47 and a shotgun. I'd probably grab the FAL or AK47 if the SHTF.

But I'm real worried about that happening anytime soon.
