Steel is your best bet, but guys have had good luck with these aluminum mounts also. Check it out http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/sto...000-725&s=6109

Graf's has St Marie Graphics diopter sights that are expensive but from what I've heard, accurate as all get out.

Surplusrifle.com also shows a long eye relief scope mount that doesn't damage the rifle.

Shrubdog and his K31 went out shooting on this fine sunny day today. She was so accurate with open sights & 174 grain fmg that Shrubdog felt like a fool for thinking the gun needed help shooting accurately. Thanks PFOA for your good feedback about the K31.

Gotta love the good old K31. Mine is exceptionally accurate scoped or not I have a St. Marie mount that it shoots good groups with but I have found it doesn't hold zero very long. Whatever you do DON'T Bubba that stock.

Check the following link for comments on accuracy of Swiss K31. Mine just tickles me, I don't consider myself a good open site shooter yet the paper tells a different story. The K31 will win your heart with its accuracy. For sure... Shrubdog.

Here is a scope mount that replaces the stock military rear sight. If this is anything like it was on my Yugo Mauser, it's a straight drop-in, is stout, and makes for a ton of fun.

Then if you want to go back to iron sights, it is an easy swap back.

Don't sporterize it! It is good the way it is, just finish the wood nice.

BTW, I love the Burma!

hey Shrubdog don't sporteriz the K31 it's a great rifle the way it is.

but if you really want to get your hands dirty and have some fun i would recommand you can pick up a Mosin Nagant m44 or m38 they are cheap, easy to get, and they have TONS of Aftermarket stock, accessories, mount, scope for it.
not to mention a good supply of 7.62x54R surplus ammo.you'll have fun doing a project like this.

or you can Pickup a Mauser type rifle like i did and turn it into a "scout rifle" i would recommend the 8mm/7.92mm cal, for example yugo 24/47, m48, Turkish Mauser, Spanish M43/m44.
just don't chop up a Swedish Mauser or a true German 98k

here is a link on M44/M38 scout project
http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting...ifle/index.asp

and here is my Mauser scout
http://www.pafoa.org/forum/gun-pictu...out-rifle.html
i kept my entire project Original rifle price included under $350

hope this helps!
