In 1967, Hathcock set the record for the 20th century's longest combat kill with a Browning M2 .50 BMG machine gun mounting a telescopic sight. The distance was 2,286 meters or 1.42 miles. Hathcock was one of several individuals to utilize the Browning M2 machine gun in the sniping role. This success led to the adoption of the .50 BMG cartridge as a viable anti-personnel and anti-equipment sniper round. Sniper rifles have been designed for this round.

"WHITE FATHER"?

Great, or otherwise?

OMFG.

Seriously, folks, this is like that kindergarten game where people whisper a phrase in the ear of the person next to them and then it gets passed down from kid to kid. By the time it gets to the end it isn't even close to the same thing. The internet is only as good as the person who googles it and then thinks that they got some sort of straight poop out of somebody else who might or might not know what's up.

Iron Eyes Cody (himself a Sicilian!) is crying somewhere ...

He likely just forgot the "E" in feather....

And...yes, Hathcock made his longest kill with a .50.

every m2hb operates via recoil, closed bolt in either full auto or semi auto. it is select fire. no modification required to make it single shot. no safety on it though... oh no!!!

Correct. The M2 doesn't need modified to fire single shot.

And it was fired from an M2 mounted on a tripod, sandbagged, and had the TE mechanism attached. He fired spotter rounds at that location to zero it in and waited for some asshole to stand there and get shot.

In 20 years it'll be a low crawl with the 50 cal machine gun to set up on top of an ant hill and take an off-hand shot to smoke Ho Chi Mihn himself right between the eyes.

Legends are great aren't they.
