Quiz time! Name that U.S. General...

Hints-
Place: Spotsylvania, Virginia
Date: May 9, 1864

Question-
This U.S. Army general was probing confederate lines with his infantry when they came under fire from Confederate snipers at ranges of around 1000m. After seeing his men duck for cover, he yelled the now famous phrase, "What? Men dodging this way for single bullets? What will you do when they open fire along the whole line? I'm ashamed of you, dodging that way. They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance." Not minutes after this, he was slain by a snipers round that hit below his left eye.

Don't cheat and use Google!

The longest range recorded for sniper kill is 2,430 metres (2,657 yd), accomplished by a Canadian sniper, Corporal Rob Furlong, during the invasion of Afghanistan, using a .50 caliber BMG (12.7 mm) McMillan TAC-50 bolt-action rifle. This meant that the bullet had a flight time of ≈ 4.5 seconds, and a drophttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trajectory_of_a_projectile#Height_at_x of ≈ 70 meters (230 ft).

The previous record was held by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock, achieved during the Vietnam War, at a distance of 2,250 metres (2,461 yd).

************************************************** ************

Imagine that 4.5 seconds.... 2 tango's standing there, one would see his buddy shot/killed and then 4.5 seconds later hear the shot............................................

or would it be like 9 or more seconds..???? isnt the speed of sound 1120 FPS?

He was referring to the kill Hathcock made with a .50 in Vietnam. Not the Canadian snipers.
