Default Romanian AKs

They're cheap, but how do they fire? I remember reading some older articles on the WASRs that said they are made for single-stacks then remilled for double-stacks after import and this sometimes causes feeding problems. Anyone know if this is still the case?

When I was living in PA there were a lot of these on the market dirt cheap. They aren't legal in CT, but I hope to be moving back in the next couple of years, and I'll probably be looking to buy one then.

"does it go bang?"

my answer is
of course it goes bang its an AK

watch for the whole canted sights more than the feed issues, might have a problem with CAI not opening up the rear of the magwell enough for drums...but thats about 5 seconds with a dremel to fix

Took my latest 2 NIB WASRs to the range the other day... One was a CIA hi-cap; full of grinding grit and all I did was the minimal barrel/gas tube cleaning to see how it ran. Like a top - no probs with the unknown EU mags, Chicom mags, or a Romanian RPK mag - and yeah; they all rattled.

The other WASR was an immaculate - non-CIA mangled - low-cap version. Ran like a top with the 2 included single-stack mags.

Have a 4th WASR on layaway as we speak.

BTW, just took a new CIA Yugo M-something underfolder off of layaway.

Came with 2 Yugo bolt-hold-open mags, a WASR manual(!), and the worst front-sight "cant" I've ever seen on ANY AK. So bad the cleaning rod was bent from where they forced it into place. The stock also rattles a bit. Otherwise, it has a nicer "build quality" than does the WASRs. But for the price of 2 WASRs - it ought to.

Okay, goes bang, I presume this means no problem with jams. I know scoutjoe said problems with inserting drums and nfa said the mags rattle, but is there any problem inserting or removing standard hi-cap mags, or do you have to fidget with them to get them seated right, and then to get them out when you're done? Would I need a dremel for the well if I'm just using 30-rd. mags?

Thanks a lot, and hilarious avatar scoutjoe!

I have a cugir wasr 10/63 and it works fine. No FTF and the mags feed fine. There is a little mag wobble, but does not affect performance. Also, there are no cant issues with mine, but I'd look at one before I bought it if I were you.

Shouldn't need to, at least I've never heard of somebody having to. Of course YMMV and such. It wouldn't be too much to ask when you are looking at the rifle to see if a mag locks in just to make sure.

Cosmetically, they're at the bottom of list, but, if they work, they'll never stop working

Yep. I put an eyes-on verified "cant" free WASR on layaway on BlackFriday. They are out there.

And as far as cosmetics go, its nice to have a rifle you don't have to fuss over in terms of the blueing or scuffing the walnut.
