I am new at this; not having pulled a trigger in forty years. I've always had the interest, and now I have the time. I just had some excellent classroom and range practice. My plan is to continue practicing and try different 9mm at two or three nearby ranges with some range help before I purchase.

My beginner question - why does one range not allow the Blazer ammo that was used during my training sessions at another range?

Welcome to the forum.

I would guess that the range does not want Blazer ammo since the cases are not reloadable. Many ranges sweep up the cases at the end of the day and sell them to reloaders for the extra $$$ or brass scrap value. They don't want to be going through and removing all the non-reloadable/non-brass stuff.

On a more cynical side some ranges also would prefer that you buy ammo from them and will restrict use of other brands for various (made-up?) reasons. For example, Targetmaster use to prohibit Winchester White Box ammo when I was there last year - they claimed there was a safety/reliability issue. Sounded like BS but then again they were more than happy to sell you their Remington Ammo.

Other ranges restrict the ammo used for the lead air pollution issue. For example, other than .22, some do not allow cast bullets or exposed lead bases (FMJ) - they insist on Total Metal Jacketed Ammo (TMJ).

Welcome---

I think your post would get more look in the general section. Just an idea for you. I know i don't spend much time here in this section.

Anyhow, like posted above---it seems that ranges have different rules based on their own adgenda.

If you ever want to get together for some trigger time, i shoot at target world in chalfont pretty often. They rent guns too---but you can shoot mine for free---just buy the ammo.

Glad to see you getting back into shooting.

Thanks for the tip and great offer. I wasn't sure which board to use; now I know. In golf parlance, I'm a duffer, but very interested in learning to shoot the right way. I have a bunch of questions, but I'll hold them until we meetup at Chalfont soon. Next week I'm on the road so I'll touch base with you after that. Thanks again.

TArgetmaster is no longer giving the run around on WWW. The flat out told me they didn't want ammo that came from Wall-mart.

I had heard that is because Wal Mart actually sells the WW ammo for a lower price than what targetmaster could buy it for, and as such TM doesn't want to compete with that. So what you do is buy the white box ammo at wal mart, then take the cartridges out and put them into a couple Remington boxes that you saved and when you show up at Targetmaster when they ask what ammo you have, you show them the "Stuff" you bought from them (Targetmaster) the last time you were there(They'll never know). Hey, there's more than one way to skin that cat.
