Default Pittsburgh area: Outdoor range with cover?

We're looking for an outdoor range with covered shooting stations near greater Pittsburgh. We are both self-employeed, so we'd prefer a place we can use at our leisure, but we don't mind working around club shooting matches and whatnot. We are recreational target shooters, so things like a "tin can alley" are more important than a fancy clay thrower or meeting/lodge space. (Our favorite range in CA was the Los Altos Rod and Gun Club, for what it's worth.)

I've been checking out websites for local ranges, but was hoping to get some personal opinions from folks here.

thx,

Greater Pitt gun club( a public range which costs $6 to shoot all day) has a covered handgun range and covered rifle ranges which can be shot out to about 400yds.

There is also a 100 yd range which has cover but not much protection from the elements.

The 400 yd rifle range cover is in need of repair but it is still being used.

Pitcarin Monroeville Sportsmans club is a private range but membership is about $100 with $60/yr (someone correct me on this) and they have covered pistol and rifle ranges (rifle to 300 yds)

List of some ranges by county. http://www.pafoa.org/forum/ranges-18...es-county.html

good luck,

I second the Pitcairn Monroeville club. Fantastic place, great people, great facilities, and you get the bonus of being in the same club as alot of the PGH area PAFOA people. But wait...operators are standing by, for the next 99999999999 hours you get FREE, yes I said ZERO COST, group shoots every month, with guest appearances by, EmptyMan, Beartitan, Frenchy, Montanya, Colagrrrl, Michele (check schedule of appearance dates) Hawk, Roland and MANY MORE!!

But seriously, before you take the step to join a club come out to a group shoot, (see range trips thread for current shoot #16) it's 5$ for non-PMSC members and you come out and shoot, get a chance to see the club and talk to some of the people.

There is one over near the Wexford exit on 79, free to the public. Has cover but no walls. If you're interested, I will give you better directions.

PMSC was on my list until I saw the bit about obligatory attendance at meetings, paying fines if you don't show up for work sessions, etc.

Not that I don't like all you people I've never met :-), but we're just looking for a place we can do a bi-monthly "shoot and scoot" as my IPSC friends describe it. In CA I used the ranges that were favored by LEO and PMC types -- what's the equivalent out here?

Jet,
Not trying to sway your decision here, but I wanted to clarify that although it's nice to have members participate, the meetings are NOT mandatory, as stated on the website, and I don't know of anyone who has been charged for not helping out at the club.

Come, join us for the PAFOA group shoot and get a good look at the club.

If you can't attend the shoot, I'd be happy to meet you one evening after work to show you the facilities.
