Default Looking for a place to shoot near Dallas, PA

I recently moved to Dallas and while I can shoot in my back yard, even though I have 8 acres, I really dont have a great backstop and its very hard to find brass in the grass...so I thought that finding a good local range would be nice, plus Im interested in IDPA as well. The Harvey's Lake RGC has a waiting list of over 100 people so that wont work and I would rather shoot somewhere that was more competition oriented and less elitest than most private gun clubs seem to be, does anyone have any ideas?

Head out Rt 118 towards Red Rock. Right after where Mooretown Rd comes in on the right, got about another 100yds and turn left on Patla Rd. You'll find a PGC range on your left down the road a bit.

Factoryville runs IDPA.

The problem I have heard with the PGC is that they limit pistol shooting to 6 rounds per mag and no rapid fire...which pretty much kills me all around.

Yes, to the round limit. Don't know about "rapid fire". I've seen and heard plenty of people pull the trigger rather quickly.

I go to this range alot and often shoot double taps and failure drills. As for the 6-round limit, I can live with that. Actually I only put 5 or 6 rounds in my gun when I shoot anyway. I see no advantage to pumping out 15+ rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger.

Think of it this way, the round limitation helps you work on doing magazine reloads.

It has its pluses, but it took me a long time to be able to count rounds in my head during rapid fire drills...Id like to be able to continue to do that...but ranges are rather limited up here so I may not have a choice.

On the other hand I may just through some 4x4s up and see if that will work as a backstop in my back yard...I shoot mostly .45 and unless Im shooting hollow points those rounds tend to just keep going

Just make sure your town/borough does not have a law against the discharge of a weapon within its boundries.

Hunting is one thing, recreational shooting is another. I'm just saying to CYA.

What Im really more worried about is a good backstop and how not to loose my brass in the grass. I may have to cave and do more shooting than I wanted at the state ranges.

What I dont understand is what they stuck with the 6 shot rule. I *sort* of get it for hunting...at least from their perspective that they want someone to pay attention to one shot rather than know they have 10 - 20 more shots if they miss...but I just dont see how this translates to shooting ranges.

I think the 6-round rule came from the idiots who would show up with their 15+ round mags and stand there pulling the trigger as fast as they can. Trouble was..........they wouldn't hit anything. Their target looked like someone shot it with a shotgun. Rounds were hitting the 2x4's.....the supports, etc.

Yes, I have personally seen the above despite the round limitations.
