9x19 = 9mm Parabellum=Standard 9mm
9mm Kurtz=.380=9mm short (kurtz in English)
Glocks can come in either ACP or GAP, pending on model, as well as .40, .357 SIG, and 10mm. TopGLOCK.com has a good chart for the Glock models and calibers
.357 sig is a .40 case necked down to a 9mm slug
.40 is a shorter 10mm

Confused yet?

.38spcl and .357mag are the same diameter. .357 being the actual diameter.

I would not recommend purchasing a 45GAP...sales are in the toilet on that caliber...don't waste your money on it.

IMO, you need to stick to something basic 9mm, 40 S&W, or 45ACP. I wouldn't even recommend a 357Sig for you...you seem to be new to the game and you need to buy something that you can find ammo for at walmart.

Also, narrow down your search and stick to 3 choices for manufacturer and caliber. Always remember to KISS.

This is probably the best advice for a new shooter, pending on your firearms related experience you may actually want to start with a revolver. Also 9x19 also = 9mm Luger

personally, i would suggest starting with a 9mm...the ammo is considerably cheaper and that will allow you to shoot more. shooting a lot (along with good instruction or at least research into proper technique) is key to becoming proficient at shooting.

Glocks are alright, but you will be disappointed with it's accuracy...if you want a polymer pistol...go Steyr, M&P, XD, HK. Glocks might have been the original polymer pistol, but the other companies have refined their polymer pistols.

I recommend Bersa Thunder .380 or Springfield XD .45.
