That's a good way to get started. If you want to pursue fighting skills and tactics with those weapons, then you have to start traveling.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am new to shooting and did not think of the NRA site. I was able to find a club relativly close that can get me started. Thanks again.

I would say, go to a formal class by any of these people: http://www.f-r-i.com http://www.insightstraining.com/en_us/ ...who tend to get to Easton and Harrisburg. John Farnam brings his "Urban Rifle" class to the area: http://www.defense-training.com/ I wish there were more training in the immediate area. |

If there was a suitable range in the area, i'd sponsor and promote all the time. The problem is all the ranges either have limited facilities or obscene restrictions.

Every few years, I try sponsoring a class in the area. I call all the ranges, and get the same story. Either: 1. NFW under any circumstances, or 2. Not on weekends. Other ranges jerked me around by feigning interest, and making me put everything in a typed prospectus, which I sent to them and they never read. Classic Pistol will, and does, bring in classes, but the narrow, 5-lane bay they rent is not especially useful -- it breaks the class into too many shifts. Still, it's an option, but not one I could be motivated to use. Basically you need someone training-oriented to buy a range, then bring trainers in, as the "Responsible Shooter" range did. However that place went under after only a few years, so maybe that's not a viable business model. |
