i am in NO WAY an authority on this but.. the way i see it is, if someone is in your yard, you can't shoot them and validly say he posed a threat to your life. if someone is IN YOUR HOME.... that's a different story.

use of force laws vary from state to state. this prolly isn't the best forum to get info on the use of force laws in arkansas.
however, in general, you must be in fear for your life or of serious bodily injury to be justified in shooting someone (except, perhaps, in texas). whether or not a specific situation justifies shooting is impossible to say on the internet--though many such debates do rage...and they can be informative. just plan on being in for a world of no-fun and lawyer's fees even if you are justified. and, really, don't shoot anyone unless you absolutely have to (like you--or possibly another person--are going to be killed, maimed, raped, or kidnapped if you don't shoot the bad guy). also, i see that you asked about ccw classes in another post. you might not get many answers here as they vary from state to state as well (and PA doesn't even require them), but whatever the requirements are in arkansas, i would highly recommend taking a *good* and *thorough* class--which in most states means something beyond the minimally required class. |

I am going to have to say, if you have to ask.. than the most likely answere is no..... It kind of bothers me when we seem to look for an excuse to "light them up".... it really is not what owning and carrying a firearm is all about. I understand the need to be prepared and know when we might think its "ok" to use deadly force, but there has to be some common sense built into it. If you fear for your life than there may be a good chance that you wont be charged but its never sure bet. Taking someones life is never something that should be taken lightly, no matter what scumball is banging at your door.

it would be hard to justify why you were in fear for your life if the door is not breached. it might also be hard to justify that threatening to "kick your ass" constituted a threat to your life or of serious bodily injury. you really need to take a good class. |

And as far as self defense, I thought the only criteria was that you have to be in fear for your life, before you can use lethal force. I dont think that the location, or other technicalities matter too much.

it also seems as though you are too ready to "light someone up". This is not the reason to buy a gun. The reason behind buying a gun is so you NEVER have to use it. You show the weapon to the bad guy, and hope like hell he runs the other way, but know that if he doesn't; then you'll have to use it. Don't let the gun be your first line of defense. (Please don't let what i'm about to say upset you, i'm not trying to do that) buuuuuuut, it seems to me that you have a little more growing up to do before you own a weapon or ccw as well....
