I note that you say the conversation happened about two years ago. Since that time the law has changed, he was correct at that time but that is no longer true. Your LTCF is now sufficient and as long as you are NOT physically hunting with your autoloader you are not breaking any laws.

A license to carry entitles you to carry a handgun, any handgun (semi-auto or revolver) concealed or in a vehicle.

The PGC does not allow the use or carry (more on this later) of a semi-auto while hunting even with your license to carry. However, if the season permits you could carry a revolver (or single-shot) handgun while hunting as long as you had a license to carry or a sportsmans permit.

This year you can now carry any handgun, revolver or semi-auto while hunting. You cannot use the semi-auto in any way, shape or form for hunting, but you can use the revolver.

The only "hassle" was with people who thought they could carry their semi-auto's while hunting (prior to this new law) because they had a license to carry.

Just my two cents,

But if you read the state reg's and interperate it the way that I do.

You can carry a pistol while hunting as long as you wear blaze orange and display a hunting license - just as you could a shotgun or a rifle as long as you were hunting something that was in season and was allowed to be harvested with a single projectile firearm weapon.

So you could not carry it for Spring Gobler.

The law also reads that you can transport it for the purpose of hunting or target practice at an approved range and can also transport it to and from your home to a approved licensed gun dealer for the purpose of repair or to sell it. Without a pistol permit of any kind.

So what ever game warden was giving you a rough time - could have gotten into trouble for harassing you..

A pistol permit is only issued by the County Sherrif, not the treasurer.

It must be done in person and you must have a photo form of identification on you at the time of application. Along with a social security card / number.

A drivers license + a Social Security card usually is what they require because they MUST do a background check before they issue your permit.

They also take your picture at the time of the application.

It must be done face to face. You cannot mail in your application and you cannot get your wife or mother or gf to go over and pick it up for you.

You have to pay for it on the spot - either cash or approved check.

They will mail it to you in about 3 days if you are eldigible.

A Sportsmans Permit is a total waste or time and money.

You are not allowed to transport a loaded pistol in a vehicle with a sportsman permit - nor can you without any permit at all. Keeping it under the front seat will get you in a lot of trouble also because that is considered a concealed weapon. You have to keep it right on the front seat or in a carry bag in the trunk. Nothing in between.

If you are eldigible for a Sportsmans Permit, you are also eldigible for a Personal Protection Permit.

Give any reason that you want, carry large sums of money, use it for buisness purposes, for your own personal protection.

As long as you don't break any laws, it is good for life.
But you have to renew it every 5? years.
They do a background check everytime that you renew it. So if you did something wrong and it didn't show up the first time, and the computer finds in on your record down the road. They will take away your pistol permit and you might also loose the right to own your pistols. So if someone did something wrong where they know that they could get in trouble for it. But is has not shown up on their record in the past. They would be better off keeping their mouth shut and not renewing their pistol permit. Keeping it at home and staying out of trouble.
Because once you have been found out. That it!

I think they might have a Lifetime Permit for a larger sum of money. Or a senior citizen permit - but I cannot remember anymore - since they change things from year to year.

I know the local sherrif and he knows me and I used him as a reference on my application and I had mine the next day.

In the old days, if you had a Protection Permit, you could go to any gun shop in Pennsylvania and buy a gun and take it home the same day.

No 3 day waiting period.

Now with the call in, everybody can take their gun home the same day.

So there is no need for a permit if all you were going to do was keep it in the house for protection.

If you are a member of the US Military or are required to carry a firearm as a condition of employment or own a buisness where you carry large sums of money or are a member of a police dept. You do not have to have a pistol permit.

You are already legal to carry that gun concealed.

HUH?
Is this correct? I guess it is if you have an ACT 235 for Security work, but just carrying large sums of cash makes you legal with no permit? Am I reading this wrong?

What's up with giving a reason?
I was never asked why I wanted a LTCF, I just filled out the paperwork and took care of the picture and money requirements.
Pa. is a 'Shall Issue' state, they need a reason to NOT issue, you don't need a reason to apply.
Or am I misinterpreting something?
