I'm asking out of personal curiosity since I tend to clean my gun every week. I noticed some firearms people carry around are sometimes dusty.

My HK USP45 I clean right after I shoot it. I have Wilderness Safe Packer as my carry holster that protects the gun very well. I figure I might clean it and rotate ammunition every 3 months or so.

once or twice per year, and yes, it is a glock! (g26)
Often fired, rarely cleaned. It's one of my most fired weapons, yet I clean it the least. There are two schools of thought to "daily" cleaning of your carry weapon, the first being the obvious maintaining and to make sure everything is clean. The second school is the one that I follow, if I fire a couple hundred or a thousand rounds, I know it is all working 100%. I do not want to strip the weapon down, aka, don't fix it if it ain't broken. I keep it well lubed and that's good enough for me, never gives me problems out of the countless thousands of rounds down the barrel. Last edited by itstock; August 21st, 2008 at 05:12 PM. |

other - for the 1911's only after I shoot them - other than that just a drop of lube on the slide & barrel every now and again if it doesn;t feel smooth when chambering a round.
for the glocks - when I change the recoil spring (every couple thousand rounds..)

I usually clean after every shoot. If I haven't gone in awhile, I'll go through the safe, give a wipedown and some oil where it belongs.

Per the manufacturers recommendation.
You owe it to yourself and your family to properly maintain your self defense weapons. Over cleaning a firearm can be detrimental.

After every shoot. I enjoy the cleaning, it relaxes me.
How can it be detrimental to remove dirt if I'm not wearing parts? Honest curiousity here.

Needs an I like pie vote. I clean my carry piece everytime I shoot it. I don't see the need to go much beyond that. I know things get dirty, but I shoot enough that it gets cleaned 1-2 times a month.
