How can it be detrimental to remove dirt if I'm not wearing parts? Honest curiousity here.
Disassembly and assembly does cause wear. Bore brushes wear down the lands in the rifling and can scratch and nick the bore.

Just don't be obsessive.

Often fired, rarely cleaned. It's one of my most fired weapons, yet I clean it the least.

There are two schools of thought to "daily" cleaning of your carry weapon, the first being the obvious maintaining and to make sure everything is clean. The second school is the one that I follow, if I fire a couple hundred or a thousand rounds, I know it is all working 100%. I do not want to strip the weapon down, aka, don't fix it if it ain't broken. I keep it well lubed and that's good enough for me, never gives me problems out of the countless thousands of rounds down the barrel.
I'm with you on this. I clean my carry XD rarely. I don't like to take something apart when it's working great. If I fire a few hundred rounds, I don't see a need to clean it. If a few thousand rounds where to get put through it on a weekend shoot, then I'll clean it. But afterwards, I'd fire 2 or 3 mags through to "trust it" again.

But, by cleaning, I'm referring to total strips and cleaning it inside and out. In the summer, I superficially clean it daily as it gets sweaty. Sweat is terrible on gun finishes - I've proven this. So, a good wipe down with an alcohol baby wipe seems to clean the sweat off pretty good. Then I just rub it down really well with a silicon cloth. I like the silicon cloths because they don't leave the dust and grime collecting goo that oil leaves over time.

Clean it? It's only gonna get dirty again. Never could figure out why people make their bed either, just gonna mess it up again.

After every shoot for those who might actually take me seriously.

I clean my carry weapon after every shooting session. on the rarity i don't shoot for a month or so i gave her a good wipe down and a couple patches down the bore. I'm from the marine corps state of mind when it comes to my firearms. Carbon = rust IE thats why carbon steel rusts. stainless steel does not rust per popular belief, fyi stainless steel will rust under the right circumstances like heat and being excessively dirty.

I usually wait until our teenage daughter brings a new boy home to meet us. I turn the kitchen table in to my smithing bench

Even though I don't carry a Glock, I chose that one.

I clean after shooting my carry guns, it may be a few days, weeks or months in between.
