Default What to look for when purchasing a used gun?

Have never bought a used gun before. But I see them every time I go to the gun shop. What would I be looking at to see that it is not a piece of junk? I never think you can trust the owner because if you ask them they will say it only has 100 rds through it. Asking cause I love 1911's but don't wanna spend $800-$1000

IIRC, if you google (How to buy a used gun) there are several good articles on what to look for and they break it down into revolver, pistols, rifles and shotguns. Just don't have it available at this very instant.

Then you need to actually GO SHOPPING for a 1911. at least 3 or 4 manufacturers offer entry level 1911s for around $500. Heck i just bought a brand new Taurus 1911 for <$600. It also came w/ a case, 4 mags, tools and a Fobus holster & mag pouch. Gander Mountain. Go now and be done w/ it. lol
