They seem to work well.

One of the brands I've seen mentioned in a lot of magazines and forums is Peltor:
http://www.peltor.com/peltor.com/com...cal%20Headsets They're not cheap, but they're supposedly good headsets. I don't have and firsthand experience with them, so I won't endorse or criticize. Just throwing it out there for reference.

I have a pair of Peltors. I don't know the model, but they were about $80, I think, and the rating is 22 or 23 dB reduction. They're pretty good, but heavy (3 AAA batteries on each side), and they do get in the way when shooting trap. I can work around them on the rifle bench, and they're no problem with pistols. They work very well indoors, and the compression is very fast. I think that's the compromise with the less-expensive models: the speed at which the noise reduction occurs. It's similar to what you get with welding helmets; if it's too slow, you're still taking damage.

anyone know of any good electronic ones that actually go in your ears (as opposed to muffs)?
my ideal ear protection would be something that goes in your ears and amplifies quiet sounds while muffling loud sounds. (like the sordin's tony posted, but that actually go in your ears.) i imagine something like that prolly exists...prolly costs a buttload of money, though, too. |
