Default Question about mag carrier/pouch's

I ordered a Uncle Mikes double stack, 2 mag kydex type belt carrier and have a question about how magazines should fit in it.

When the mags are in, there is like 1/4 on 3 sides of the mag which equals no retention at all. There's no springs or screws to tighten down to snug the mags up.

Are they supposed to be this loose? I would think not but I have never bought a magazine carrier before.

by the way, these a 9mm SW9VE mags. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I picked up one of those as well, not having closely examined the construction. Had I known it had no real "back" I wouldn't have bought it. I won't use it for daily carry.

One of the problems with kydex is that it is molded specifically to a given item. You'll need a carrier that fits your S&W's mags specifically, or at least for mags of a very similar design, shape and size.

One thing I've learned with kydex mag carriers is - they SUCK! You're better off with a leather or cordora carrier with or without flaps.

I have Kydex mag holders from a couple vendors and they are OK but I have had the best luck with leather mag holders. Just personal preference. My son has a set of all metal mag holders from Safariland that he really likes a lot. Several people at his office have them. He is a Fed LEO and they carry concealed most of the time.
