Yup, that's probably the best way.....or the only way it will get through to everyone. My guys know it already.

I hope it does not ever happen, but...

My main carry is a Ruger Security Six. The serial number is under the handgrip. I wonder how that stop and check would pan out?? I surely would not be saying where the s/n is; it is not required.

looks like I have alot to learn about police procedures up here . only time we ran ck. on firearms was N C I C OR T C I C to check for stolen . if no stolen report , that was the end of our business . only time we checked at all was if there was something going on that really aroused suspicion , not as a routine matter

It is not supposed to be routine here either.

A shame it seems to be the norm, in some areas.......

I do not know of any officer that has direct access to the PSP "registry".

York County has always been a bit behind the times. When I made my original post on this, as an officer I had no direct JNET access (except thru my dispatcher) which led to my confusion as to who may access the 'database'. I got all cleared up after a bit of a training session with my 'scope' operators and some MDT training.

Steve's post said it best....some officers just don't know. MPOETC could really step up the training on this.

Speaking of JNET, we've been without it (our dept) for almost 2 years. The computer we were using for JNET crashed and the chief has not replaced it. We also got a laptop from an EMA grant more than a year ago, for the specific purpose if being able to run JNET from our car.

Where is the laptop you ask?? Sitting on the chief's desk
