Hey experts,
I have the opportunity to pick up some things from an estate sale. Most of what I'm interested in is gone. Here's some of my final picks. I'll list them as I see them on paper. SHOULD I BUY??? ANY ADVICE/INPUT is appreciated!!! Ruger Security Six .357 Magnum Stainless, Trigger work done, Wolf springs, Other custom work done, Excellent condition. $200 I saw this one in person, and it's in great shape, fits my hand well... it's being shown to a potential buyer tonight.(Pray he sez "no", because I want it!) Here's what it looks like(not actual gun-from post #505 on THR thread) http://www.thehighroad.org/showpost....&postcount=504 Here's a blued version: ![]() Also H&R Model 929 .22 ca. Revolver (not the top break model) Serial #AA366, very good cond. $50 ![]() ALSO... and THE ONE I NEED THE MOST HELP WITH: Winchester Model94 .45 Colt, Serial #6248465 Big Loop lever action (Exc. Cond.) $300 Does anyone know if that would make it a "Trail's End" model? I don't know what the barrel length is. (trying to get that info from seller) I'm GUESSING it looks like THIS: ![]() Again, ANY ADVICE/INPUT is appreciated!!! Thanks! ~EM |

PRAY!!!!!
If the Ruger doesn't sell tonight, I'm buying it. (A young guy is looking at that and a Ruger P89 9mm. I hope he's a typical young person!) I want the WINCHESTER in the worst way, although I know little about them. Haven't seen photos of it to know if it's a good deal. |

With the Winny 94 - I think what makes it a "Trails End" is the big loop lever(negative). I believe the barrel is the same as the Trapper model(I have one), 16". For $300, if you dont buy I'll club you over the head whenever I get to meet ya at one of the shoots. $300 is a STEAL!! Trails End/Trappers are going for $450-800 at online auctions. They are tanks, strong, well built - will last into your grandkid's lifetimes. My Trapper 16" 45LC shooting cowboy load 250gr lead slugs can pop bottle caps out to 50yrd with open sights. BUY IT! DAMMIT, BUY IT!!!!
CORRECTION ABOUT THE TRAILS END - 20" barrel, saddle ring, was made with round and octagon barrels(optional), http://www.winchesterguns.com/prodin...y.asp?cat=003C Ruger Security 6 is also a damn good buy too. Well built guns. BUY IT! The H&R is a decent plinker. It's no Ruger, Smith, Taurus, or Freedom Arms - but should serve you for many many years. If it isn't beatup, shot loose, or doesn't have a bad bore - $50 is a good price too. The former H&R made pistols upto the mid '80s or '90s. The post mid-90's ownership, Marlin owned era, and present Remington era has no connection to the H&R pistol line. Hell, just buy all three. If you dont like the H&R - I'll buy it off ya someday. Having not seen photos of the actual arms in question or having done any research on Blue Book values: If you have the cash buy them or what you can. If you don't have the cash only buy something if it is a really, really, good deal.
My general opinion: the Ruger seems like a heck of a deal. Any non-Saturday-night-special revolver for less than $100 is probably a no brainer. As for the 94, I'd base my decision on condition. From a quick search online the large hoop does not necessarily make it the "Trails End" model. A Gunbroker search yielded starting prices anywhere from 250-1500. I know there are some special edition models that drive prices up, but a good shooter in excellent condition has got to be worth $300.

Thanks for the input so far guys!
I can't really afford this, buy how can you pass up the prices? They seem good to me. If all three are still avail., I may sell my G27 to offset the cost. I don't particularly care if a firearm has worn blueing, or a ding in the wood, but scratches in the steel bug me... I'm trying to get photos of the two I haven't seen. I was hoping to get a lever rifle with a short barrel, but this price seems so good that I think I can learn to love it just as much. Man, I hope these aren't sold already. I've never run into a great gun deal in my life! Positive thoughts. Positive thoughts... |

The Stainless Security six is worth every penny with the work thats been done to it.
The serial number on the Winchester puts production year at 92-93 which was too early for the Trails End, The Trails End was built starting in 1997 and the large loop was discontinued in 98. I believe you found a model 94 Wrangler large loop that was made in 1992. Should be 16 inch bbl with open sights and worth every penny. As for the H&R? just be sure to check the timing, they tend to get a little finiky and my wife still complains from time to time about the hole in the siding from an out of time H&R I had but then again for 50 bucks it's hard to go wrong.Rich W. Those all seem like great deals. A $200 revolver that'll last you the rest of your life is something you don't want to pass up. And lever guns that shoot pistol cartridges are SWEET! I got my fingers crossed for you, and I think I have some .38's around here somewhere I can donate to the cause. Gotta dig through some ammo
