I often clean my dirtier guns outside, so I don't get all kinds of carbon and soot and dirty cleaner residue all over. And it also takes care of the ventilation problem.

Not sure what an m2hb is but I am assuming it must be big, too big to be cleaned on the kitchen table perhaps? Back in the day I used to clean my guns at the kitchen table...until I started catching flak about the smell, so I then built my basement worktable and the rest is history....If I were you I would not clean a gun outside for reasons already mentioned. For the same reasons as you don't normally have sex outside (becasue you don't want the neighbors to see) is the same reason not to have a gun in plain sight. From a safety standpoint you are better off doing it behind closed doors.

well, if i were a criminal, one of my first orders of business would be to figure out what homes had guns in them.

stake out the place...learn when people are home and when they aren't.

wait until they aren't home...break in and steal the guns. (a regular gun safe would slow a halfway smart criminal down, but not stop him.)

but, most criminals aren't even halfway smart, so...

I'd be willing to bet money on it that the vast majority of people who owns guns fall into one of these:

A: don't have a safe for their guns (locked gun cabinets don't count)
B: If they do have a safe not all guns are in their safe

you're prolly right about most gun owners not having a safe. it's prolly a result of having grown up in a time/place in which there weren't any wetbacks casing the house on tuesdays.

some of us still live in that kind of place, but have reasonably good security, just for fun. mine involves steel jailhouse bars on the doors and windows of the gunroom...bring your hacksaw, and plenty of time.

i think im pretty secure, you can break into my office but it will take a few minutes, its got an 18ga steel door with a security lock, the walls are wire lath w\ one inch of cement \studs and rock. also a video camera that no one knows its there. im not to worried i have alot of neighbors that are home all the time. even if you had one of those big safes a professional would be able to get into it or just remove the whole thing. plus its almost impossible to hide the guns from the neighbors, you cant walk out the back door without anyone seeing you so every time i go to the range or something i have eyes on me. its kind of like having a nice car but its not left outside..

cool. i wasn't really criticizing or anything. just some food for thought that some people have never thought about.

it is certainly nice not having your house smell like noxious chemicals after cleaning your guns.
