Default Too many firearm aquisitions cause for suspicion from the fuzz?

My father and I have acquired about 10 firearms in the last 2 months, and he is just worried about any kind of suspicion from authorities.

Its not like we're overtly doing anything that WOULD, but he just thinks that with the Patriot Act and what all, we could be raided and detained just because of a quick buy-up of firearms.

I told him that as long as neither of us have any convictions, or commit any crimes, we have the right to buy whatever and however many firearms we want (class I).

Anyone have any experience of things like this? Any horror stories? Hopefully I'm right, and you all can just reassure me. :P

The owner of the company I work for has been buying at least five or six guns a month for the last 20 years. Nobody has ever knocked on his door.

I have bought four, five and six guns at a time from a single shop and never had a problem.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, I never have.

If multiple pistols are bought at one time, the store submits a form notifying the BATFE. If you bought a Colt 45 and a Ruger MarkII at the same time I wouldn't worry about it. On the other hand, if in one day you bought 3 handguns totaling $300 I would expect a knock at the door.

BTW, There is no such notification made for long guns.

I have never heard of an investigation starting based solely on the # of gun purchases made, and if there were I don't think 2 people buying 10 guns in 2 months would kick it off.

Really? I did not know this. How long does that usually take, for them to get there? And what is that encounter like? Are they hostile towards ya? I've not heard anything good about them, so I'm genuinely curious.

I was being a little tongue in cheek with my response. My point was your purchases probably aren't going to raise any suspicion or response. As long as you are not making straw purchases for the purposes of selling them to someone who is prohibited from buying them, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I have bought about 60 guns in past 2 years, never had an issue. As others said there is no notification done for long guns. I've bought a 1911 and a 22lr target pistol at the same time, other pistols were spaced out because I like nice guns and dont want to leave 3K at the counter all at once. As long as your guns stay in your safe and don't end up seized as crime guns in paterson you shouldn't have any issues.

lets see here?

2 guys
2 months
10 guns

NOPE thats less than one a week per buyer! tell your dad that you guys are still beginners and he has nothing to worry about!! LOL!!

I know of only one investigation that was opened because of the number of guns purchased in a time frame and trust me you are NO WHERE near that amount.

I did a cage clean out (junk and parts guns) about 8 months ago and sold 23 handguns to the same guy in one load and other then me getting writers cramp from filling out the multi purchase forms NOTHING happened.

If by chance all 20 guns you bought were hi-points,cobra's or phoenix arms, THEN you may have someone come knocking in a couple months wanting to check and see if you still have them all.

I think you're totally cool, but I worry about this myself.

Of course it will only be a problem for me if I hit the lottery. Other than that I'll be lucky to afford a new gun every couple months....If that.

Remember, you promised to buy me a Mini Cooper when you hit the lottery.
